Mitochondrial Thymidine Kinase Inhibitors
Current Topics in Medicinal Chemistry, 2005Mitochondrial thymidine kinase or TK-2 belongs to the family of mammalian deoxynucleoside kinases (dNKs) that catalyze the phosphorylation of deoxynucleosides to their corresponding deoxynucleoside monophosphates by gamma-phosphoryl transfer of ATP.

This review summarizes a body of information suggesting that proper metabolic modulation with certain metabolites can sensitize tumor cells to anti-metabolites, and others can de-sensitize (i.e. protect) normal cells from the toxicity of anti-metabolites.

Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic Acids, 2006
Twenty-six fully sequenced archaeal genomes were searched for genes coding for putative deoxyribonucleoside kinases (dNKs). We identified only 5 human-like thymidine kinase 1 genes (TK1s) and none for non-TK1 kinases. Four TK1s were identified in the Euryarchaea and one was found in the Crenarchaea, while none was found in Nanoarchaeum.

Radiation effects of thymidine-3H and thymidine-14C
Experimental Cell Research, 1960Results are reported from a comparative study of the fequencies of chromosome aberrations induced by tritiumgroup and in the number two position of the pyrimidine ring, C/sup 14/ in the methyl group produced twice as many abberations as C/sup 14/ in the pyrimidine ring.
