EFFECTS OF INTESTINALLY ABSORBED THYMIDINE ON TRITIATED THYMIDINE UTILIZATION

open access: yesCell Proliferation, 1979
ABSTRACTExperimental evidence presented suggests that [3H]TdR can be rapidly and efficiently transported from the intestine to the systemic circulation. This pathway for thymidine transport may be physiologically important since administration of cold thymidine in the drinking water enhances the utilization of a parenterally injected dose of [3H]TdR in

Transition State Analysis of Thymidine Hydrolysis by Human Thymidine Phosphorylase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2010
Human thymidine phosphorylase (hTP) is responsible for thymidine (dT) homeostasis, and its action promotes angiogenesis. In the absence of phosphate, hTP catalyzes a slow hydrolytic depyrimidination of dT yielding thymine and 2-deoxyribose (dRib).

Unbiased metabolite profiling indicates that a diminished thymidine pool is the underlying mechanism of colon cancer chemoprevention by alpha-difluoromethylornithine.

open access: yesCancer Discovery, 2013
UNLABELLED The ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor α-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) is a highly effective chemopreventive agent for colorectal cancer thought to act via polyamine depletion. However, in DFMO-treated patients, mucosal polyamine levels do not

Inhibitory Effect of Bridged Nucleosides on Thermus aquaticus DNA Polymerase and Insight into the Binding Interactions. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Modified nucleosides have the potential to inhibit DNA polymerases for the treatment of viral infections and cancer. With the hope of developing potent drug candidates by the modification of the 2',4'-position of the ribose with the inclusion of a bridge,

THE RING STRUCTURE OF THYMIDINE

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1935
The 2-desoxy-ribose nucleosides, first isolated by Levene and London’ by the hydrolysis of thymus nucleic acid, are characterized by their extreme ease of hydrolysis by very dilute mineral acids. Thus, guanine-2-desoxy-riboside is completely hydrolyzed by heating with 0.01 N hydrochloric acid during 5 minutes.

Anticancer activity of a thymidine quinoxaline conjugate is modulated by cytosolic thymidine pathways [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2015
High levels of thymidine kinase 1 (TK1) and thymidine phosphorylase (TYMP) are key molecular targets by thymidine therapeutics in cancer treatment. The dual roles of TYMP as a tumor growth factor and a key activation enzyme of anticancer metabolites resulted in a mixed outcome in cancer patients. In this study, we investigated the roles of TK1 and TYMP

Incorporation of thymidine into onion root meristematic cell nuclei in presence of hydroxyurea and its role in recovery of mitotic activity

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2015
Hydroxyurea treatment of onion roots induced mitotic block which was released by transfer of bulbs to water, and also to some extent by addition of cold or 3H-thymidine to hydroxyurea solutions.

Incorporation characteristics of exogenous 15N-labeled thymidine, deoxyadenosine, deoxyguanosine and deoxycytidine into bacterial DNA.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Bacterial production has been often estimated from DNA synthesis rates by using tritium-labeled thymidine. Some bacteria species cannot incorporate extracellular thymidine into their DNA, suggesting their biomass production might be overlooked when using

Thymidine Analogues for Tracking DNA Synthesis

open access: yesMolecules, 2011
Replicating cells undergo DNA synthesis in the highly regulated, S-phase of the cell cycle. Analogues of the pyrimidine deoxynucleoside thymidine may be inserted into replicating DNA, effectively tagging dividing cells allowing their characterisation ...
