Regulation of matrix-metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) in glomerular mesangial cells

open access: yes, 2004
Remodeling of extracellular matrix (ECM) is an important physiologic feature of normal growth and development. In addition to this critical function in physiology many diseases have been associated with an imbalance of ECM synthesis and degradation.

From anthelmintic to neuro‐oncology: A systematic review of mebendazole repurposing for brain tumour therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim Mebendazole (MBZ), a benzimidazole anthelmintic with established clinical use, has emerged as a repurposing candidate for primary brain tumours due to its multimodal anticancer actions and central nervous system penetrance. This systematic review synthesizes preclinical and clinical evidence evaluating MBZ's efficacy, mechanisms of action ...

2D copper nanozyme patches facilitate bone regeneration via interfacial modulation of osteoclast‐osteoblast dynamics

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This study develops a nano‐enzyme patch (ezPatch) targeting bone interfaces. Utilizing ligand‐to‐metal charge transfer (LMCT) catalysis and bone‐targeting ligands on copper nanosheets, ezPatch simultaneously scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and generates oxygen in situ at bone‐losing sites.

Targeting neutrophil extracellular traps in metabolic and immune niche: Nanomaterials for diabetes tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The effects of NETs on regeneration of various diabetic tissues, and strategies targeting NETs for diabetes tissue regeneration. In the diabetic environment, NETs undergo complex metabolic and immune reprogramming, leading to dynamic changes in antibacterial and proinflammatory functions, and affecting regeneration of multiple systemic tissues.

Drug‐coated balloons: From conventional designs to next‐generation innovations in vascular therapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This review traces the evolution of drug‐coated balloons (DCBs) from conventional designs to next‐generation platforms. We highlight innovations in balloon engineering, coating technologies, and therapeutic agents that enhance localized drug delivery while addressing challenges in efficiency, safety, and biocompatibility for vascular and emerging non ...

Atomically precise metal cluster enzymes for pathological tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of atomically precise metal cluster enzymes (MCEs) for pathological tissue regeneration. Atomically precise MCEs can modulate biological processes, such as attenuation of inflammatory responses, eradication of bacterial pathogens, regulation of angiogenesis, and promotion of cell development.

Identification of novel molecular scaffolds for the design of MMP-13 inhibitors through Virtual Screening Methods

open access: yes, 2010
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the leading cause of joint pain and disability in middle-aged and elderly patients. It is characterized by progressive loss of articular cartilage that eventually leads to denudation of the joint surface.
