Novel bi- and trifunctional inhibitors of tumor-associated proteolytic systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Serine proteases, cysteine proteases, and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in cancer cell invasion and metastasis. Recently, a recombinant bifunctional inhibitor (chCysuPA(19-31)) directed against cysteine proteases and the urokinasetype ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase, matrix metalloproteinase-2 and tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase-2 in early stages of canine osteoarthritis

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2008
The aim of this study was to determine if the activity of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) in the synovial fluid (SF) and serum can be used as a marker for diagnosing the early stages of osteoarthritis (OA).

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

PECULIARITIES OF THE FIBROSIS AND CIRRHOSIS MONITORING AMONG CHILDREN WITH CHRONIC LIVER DISEASES

open access: yesПедиатрическая фармакология, 2009
The researchers examined the opportunities to use determination in the serum among children with chronic liver diseases of various etiologies of the hyaluronic acid levels, collagen type IV, matrix metalloproteinase-2, tissue inhibitor of the matrix ...

Multimodal therapy for synergic inhibition of tumour cell invasion and tumour-induced angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) are highly invasive tumours with frequent local and distant recurrence. Metastasis formation requires degradation of the extracellular matrix, which is fulfilled by membrane-associated ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Role of Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 in Eosinophil-Mediated Airway Remodeling

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Airway remodeling is responsible for the progressive decline of lung function in bronchial asthma. Matrix metalloproteinase-2 and fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transition are involved in tissue remodeling.

Promoter variants in tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-3 (TIMP-3) protect against susceptibility in pigeon breeders' disease.

open access: yes, 2004
BACKGROUND: Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) play a major role in extracellular matrix turnover in the lung. However, in chronic lung disorders such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and pigeon breeders' disease (PBD), TIMPs may ...
