Prognostic Values of Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 and Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-2 Expression in Bladder Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Urology, 1998
Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), which degrades the extracellular matrix or the basement membrane, has an essential role in tumor invasion and metastasis. To evaluate the roles of MMP-2, its inhibitor (tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 [TIMP-2]), and its activator (membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase-1 [MT1-MMP]) in tumor invasion or as a ...

Prognostic Significance of Matrix Metalloproteinase 2 and Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase 2 Expression in Prostate Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesModern Pathology, 2003
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are proteolytic enzymes capable of degrading the structural support network for normal and malignant cells, promoting neoplastic cell invasion and metastasis. Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) maintain connective tissue integrity by modulating MMP activity.

Metalloproteinase-2 in failed back surgery syndrome caused by epidural fibrosis: can it play a role in persistent pain?

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2023
PurposeFailed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS) occurs in 10–40% of patients treated surgically due to disk herniation (DH). There are several factors that can cause a predisposition to FBSS, but the exact pathomechanism has not been elucidated.

Histopathologic Findings Associated With Matrix Metalloproteinases Proceeding to Recurrence of Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax in Adolescents

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2021
Background: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax is potentially life-threatening, and its recurrence is always a serious problem. Pathological examination provides molecular insights into the pathophysiology of primary spontaneous pneumothorax. Objectives: To

Structural insight into the complex formation of latent matrix metalloproteinase 2 with tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2 [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2002
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of multidomain enzymes involved in the physiological degradation of connective tissue, as well as in pathological states such as tumor invasion and arthritis. Apart from transcriptional regulation, MMPs are controlled by proenzyme activation and a class of specific tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases ...

Effects of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2 deficiency on aneurysm formation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2006
Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 has been shown to play a pivotal role in aortic aneurysm formation. Its activation requires formation of a trimolecular complex of MMP-2, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2), and membrane type 1 (MT1)-MMP, which is attached to the cell surface. At higher concentrations, TIMP-2 becomes an inhibitor of MMP-2.

The effects of a plant proteinase inhibitor from Enterolobium contortisiliquum on human tumor cell lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Supplementary to the efficient inhibition of trypsin, chymotrypsin, plasma kallikrein, and plasmin already described by the EcTI inhibitor from Enterolobium contortisiliquum, it also blocks human neutrophil elastase (K(iapp)=4.3 nM) and prevents phorbol ...

Structure and Characterization of the Human Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinases-2 Gene [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1996
We report here the characterization of the human tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP-2) gene. The gene is 83 kilobase pairs (kb) long with exon-intron splicing sites located in preserved positions among the three members of the TIMP family.

Identification of a novel 82 kDa proMMP-9 species associated with the surface of leukaemic cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
MMP-9 (matrix metalloproteinase 9) plays a critical role in tumour progression. Although the biochemical properties of the secreted form of proMMP-9 are well characterized, little is known about the function and activity of cell surface-associated proMMP-

The purification of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 from its 72 kDa progelatinase complex. Demonstration of the biochemical similarities of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1 [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1991
Human gingival fibroblasts in culture were shown to secrete a 72 kDa progelatinase, of which a proportion in the medium was found to be complexed with tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP-2). A purification procedure was devised to purify free enzyme and inhibitor. We also describe the purification of both 95 kDa progelatinase bound to TIMP-1
