In this paper we report the relationship between carotenoids and ergosterol and cell UV-B resistance in different strains of the yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa. Cell survival was studied using a set of 13 strains; additionally, two mutants (a hyper-producing one and a colourless one) in combination with diphenylamine (DPA), a carotenogenesis inhibitor,

Synthesen in der Carotinoid‐Reihe. 16. Mitteilung Carotinoide vom Typus des Torularhodins
Helvetica Chimica Acta, 1959AbstractVinylogous series of carotenoic acids and the corresponding esters have been synthesized from the B‐apo‐carotenals by the WITTIG reaction. By comparison with the synthetic material the structure of torularhodin from torula yeast was shown to be that of 3′, 4′‐dehydro‐18′‐y‐carotenoic acid.

Two-Stage Fermentation for Torularhodin Production from Rhodotorula mucilaginosa Using Molasses
Engineering and Technology For Sustainable DevelopmentTorularhodin is a carotenoid of considerable interest due to its potent antioxidant activity and potential applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. In the study, the influence of culture conditions, including pH, temperature, and medium composition (molasses concentration and urea supplementation) on biomass formation and ...

This study primarily investigates the pivotal role of torularhodin in alleviating diabetic nephropathy in mice. Oral administration of torularhodin at a dose of 30 mg/kg/day for 8 weeks significantly improved diabetic symptoms and mitigated kidney tissue damage in a mouse model of diabetic nephropathy.
