Detection of Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin-1 among Children Undergoing Surgical Operations
Background: Toxic-shock syndrome (TSS) is an acute onset; multiorgan disease caused mainly by Toxic-shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) producing Staphylococcus aureus strains.Testing for TSST-1 or anti-TSST-1 antibodies in the clinical setting may help to ...

Toxicity of recombinant toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 and mutant toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus in a rabbit infection model of toxic shock syndrome [PDF]
Menstrually associated toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is attributed primarily to the effects of staphylococcal exotoxin toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1). A region of the 194-amino-acid toxin spanning residues 115 through 144 constitutes a biologically active site.

BACKGROUND: The majority of menstrual toxic shock syndrome (MTSS) cases are caused by a single clone of Staphylococcus aureus that produces both toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) and staphylococcal enterotoxin A (SEA).

Waterhouse friderichsen syndrome in a case of staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome
Staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a rare and potentially fatal multi system dysfunction. The syndrome occurs primarily due to TSS Toxin-1 (TSS-1) liberated by Staphylococcus aureus (SA).

A rabbit model of toxic shock syndrome that uses a constant, subcutaneous infusion of toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 [PDF]
We have developed a rabbit model of toxic shock syndrome that uses a subcutaneous infusion pump to administer toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1). A dose of 150 micrograms, infused at a constant rate over a period of 7 days, resulted in a characteristic illness highlighted by fever, conjunctival hyperemia, cachexia, and lethargy.

Intracellular expression of toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]
In order to search for an occult cytotoxic enzymatic activity of the toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1), we placed the gene encoding TSST-1 (tstH) under the control of an inducible promoter in the eukaryotic yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Under similar circumstances, the known bacterial enzymatic cytotoxins Shiga-like toxin and diphtheria toxin are

We report a SCCmec II, ST39 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolate from pigs that harboured toxic-shock syndrome toxin gene (tsst-1). The gene was located in a rare pathogenicity island SaPI68111, which also carried enterotoxin genes that ...

Human scFvs That Counteract Bioactivities of Staphylococcus aureus TSST-1
Some Staphylococcus aureus isolates produced toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) which is a pyrogenic toxin superantigen (PTSAg). The toxin activates a large fraction of peripheral blood T lymphocytes causing the cells to proliferate and release ...

TSST-1 protein exerts indirect effect on platelet activation and apoptosis
Thrombocytopenia or platelet dysfunction is a risk factor for severe infection. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) releases a variety of virulence factors especially toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1), which may cause toxic shock syndrome. S.
