PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Molecular mechanisms underlying early functional divergence in snake venom inferred from the genomes of two pitviper lineages

open access: yesBMC Biology
Background The molecular mechanisms that underlie adaptive divergence in complex traits can be assessed in traits like animal venoms where variation in gene sequence and expression levels can be directly linked to functional divergence in phenotypes.

Shiga Toxin Detection Methods : A Short Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Shiga toxins comprise a family of related protein toxins secreted by certain types of bacteria. Shigella dysenteriae, some strain of Escherichia coli and other bacterias can express toxins which caused serious complication during the infection. Shiga

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Distribution of major toxins in Rhinella marina parotoid macroglands using Desorption-Electrospray-Ionization mass spectrometry imaging (DESI-MSI)

open access: yesToxicon: X, 2020
Amphibian cutaneous glands secrete toxins used in different vital functions including passive defense. Through Desorption Electrospray Ionization-Imaging we analyzed the distribution of the major toxins of the toad Rhinella marina parotoid macroglands ...

A Bioanalytical Platform for Simultaneous Detection and Quantification of Biological Toxins

open access: yesItalian National Conference on Sensors, 2012
Prevalent incidents support the notion that toxins, produced by bacteria, fungi, plants or animals are increasingly responsible for food poisoning or intoxication. Owing to their high toxicity some toxins are also regarded as potential biological warfare

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Studies on Resistance to Vegetative (Vip3A) and Crystal (Cry1A) Insecticidal Toxins of Bacillus thuringiensis in Heliothis virescens (Fabricius) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxins expressed in commercial transgenic crop varieties are all δ-endotoxins (Cry toxins) but the identification of novel vegetative insecticidal proteins (Vip toxins) has extended the range of insecticidal proteins derived
