Transdermal Absorption of Radioprotectors Using Permeation-Enhancing Vehicles
Radiation Research, 1990Radioprotectors are not currently used clinically due to concerns regarding toxicity and uncertainties regarding tumor protection. Topical radioprotection of skin might find clinical applications with protectors such as WR-2721, but laboratory studies in which protectors have been applied in water have not been promising. We have studied the absorption

Transkarbams with terminal branching as transdermal permeation enhancers
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2008Transkarbams (T) represent novel group of highly active, non-toxic transdermal permeation enhancers. This study was focused on the influence of small symmetrical terminal branching on their enhancing activity. Series of T with terminal methyl or ethyl branching was prepared and their permeation-enhancing activity was compared to that of their linear ...

Sucrose Esters as Transdermal Permeation Enhancers
2015Surfactants are widely used excipients in topical formulations, not only for their solubilizing and emulsifying properties but also for their well-known capacity to enhance drug permeation. Although nonionic surfactants are frequently chosen because of their mild effect on the skin, they share a low efficacy as permeation enhancers.

Transdermal Permeation: Physiological and Physicochemical Aspects
1991Prior to the introduction of transdermal delivery systems, topical delivery of drugs was achieved by application of ointments or creams to intact skin. When the goal was systemic therapy (e.g., nitroglycerin and estradiol ointments), reproducible dosing was extremely difficult to achieve because of the difficulty in applying uniform amounts of ointment

Design of improved permeation enhancers for transdermal drug delivery
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2009One promising way to breach the skin's natural barrier to drugs is by the application of chemicals called penetration enhancers. However, identifying potential enhancers is difficult and time consuming. We have developed a virtual screening algorithm for generating potential chemical penetration enhancers (CPEs) by integrating nonlinear, theory-based ...

Biodegradable derivatives of tranexamic acid as transdermal permeation enhancers
Journal of Controlled Release, 2005The purpose of this work was to develop a novel approach to transdermal permeation enhancer design, based on utilizing some favorable properties of their metabolites. As an example of this concept, a series of carbamic acid salts of tranexamic acid (TXA) esters was synthesized, because TXA was previously shown to improve skin barrier homeostasis ...

[Influence of permeation enhancers on transdermal permeation of anemonin].
Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica, 2008To investigate the effect of different permeation enhancer on transdermal permeation of anemonin through human skin. The permeation experiments were performed using human skin on modified Franz diffusion cells in vitro. The concentrations of anemonin in receptor compartment at specified time points were determined by HPLC.

Transdermal permeation of apomorphine through hairless mouse skin from microemulsions
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2001The in vitro transdermal absorption of apomorphine from microemulsions was studied using the skin of the hairless mouse as a membrane. Two microemulsions (no. 1 and 2) were prepared and thickened both containing 3.9% of apomorphine hydrochloride. The lipophilicity of the drug was increased by forming apomorphine-octanoic acid ion-pairs.
