BATTLE: Genetically Engineered Strategies for Split-Tunable Allocation of Multiple Transgenes in the Nervous System

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Elucidating fine architectures and functions of cellular and synaptic connections requires development of new flexible methods. Here, we created a concept called the “battle of transgenes,” based on which we generated strategies using ...

A CRY-BIC negative-feedback circuitry regulating blue light sensitivity of Arabidopsis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cryptochromes are blue light receptors that regulate various light responses in plants. Arabidopsis cryptochrome 1 (CRY1) and cryptochrome 2 (CRY2) mediate blue light inhibition of hypocotyl elongation and long-day (LD) promotion of floral initiation. It

The Uppsala APP Mutation Promotes Wild‐Type Amyloid‐β Aggregation and Deposition In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We investigated in vivo cross‐seeding of amyloid‐β (Aβ) isoforms in transgenic mice co‐expressing wild‐typeAβ and the Uppsala‐mutant Aβ variant (AβUpp), lacking six central residues. Weleveraged MALDI‐MS imaging and hyperspectral microscopy to follow spatio‐temporalAβ deposition.

A BIOINFORMATICS CHARACTERIZATION OF THE RNA-DEPENDENT RNA POLYMERASE FROM THE PARASITIC FUNGI, Metarhizium anisopliae

open access: yesРоссийский паразитологический журнал, 2016
Metarhizium anisopliae is an entomopathogenic organism that is parasitic towards insects, including those that serve as vectors for human disease, including malaria parasite infected Anopheles mosquitoes.

A multiplexable TALE-based binary expression system for in vivo cellular interaction studies

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Binary expression systems enable researchers to deliver loss-of-function or gain-of-function transgenes with spatial-temporal resolution in vivo.

Caenorhabditis nomenclature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Genetic nomenclature allows the genetic features of an organism to be structured and described in a uniform and systematicway. Genetic features, including genes, variations (both natural and induced), and gene products, are assigned descriptorsthat ...

A Central Somatic Transmission Mediates Proprioceptive Facilitation of Muscle Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zhang et al. uncover a novel central mechanism for persistent muscle pain, in which TRPA1 sensitization in MeV proprioceptive neurons enhances somatic secretion. This, in turn, disinhibits descending pain control from neighboring noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons via local GABAergic circuits, thereby promoting inflammatory muscle pain.

Transgenes are revolutionizing crop production

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 2000
The ability to cut and join DNA to create a new molecule and to insert into the crop plant the new DNA molecule as a new gene, a “transgene,” forms the basis of the most revolutionary crop improvement technology of the 20th century.

Expression of transgenes targeted to the Gt(ROSA)26Sor locus is orientation dependent. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2006
Targeting transgenes to a chosen location in the genome has a number of advantages. A single copy of the DNA construct can be inserted by targeting into regions of chromatin that allow the desired developmental and tissue-specific expression of the ...

Murine models of renal disease: Possibilities and problems in studies using mutant mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The elucidation of the pathogenesis of human renal disease at the molecular level has been facilitated by the growing field of gene targeting and the development of mouse strains with single-gene deletions - the `knock-out' mice. Experimental nephrology,
