A comparison of initial harvest results from four partial harvest systems at the Blue Heron Demonstration Forest

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle
Demonstration forests have been established across the northern hardwoods of the United States to assess the economic and environmental implications of partial harvest systems, such as single tree selection and diameter limit cutting.

Response of young apricot trees to natural zeolite, organic and inorganic fertilizers

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2013
The study focused on characterizing five apricot cultivars to acknowledge the impact of natural zeolite (Agrozel type), cattle manure, composite NPK (15-15-15) and calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) on tree vigour, precocity, yield performance and fruit ...

Physiological characterization of drought stress response and expression of two transcription factors and two LEA genes in three Prunus genotypes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Global warming has led to a progressive decrease in rainfall, which is reflected by a reduction of water resources in the soil and a negative effect on crop production in Mediterranean areas.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Hevea brasiliensis: results from the cambodian large scale clone trials in 2011 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In order to update the clonal recommendations in Cambodia, a set of 14 Large Scale Clonal Trials (LSCT) was analysed globally for 36 clones, based on linear adjustments of the data from each trial. Although this method was statistically not very powerful,
