Using longitudinal survival probabilities to test field vigour estimates in sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.).

open access: yes, 2008
Tree mortality is a major force driving forest dynamics. To foresters, however, tree mortality is often considered a loss in productivity. To reduce tree mortality, silvicultural systems, such as selection cuts, aim at removing trees that are more likely

Preliminary evaluation results of new plum cultivars in a dense planting

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2009
Sixteen new plum cultivars mostly bred in Germany were tested together with several standards in a high density experimental orchard established at Holovousy in the spring of 2004 with spacing 5 × 1.5 m. Trees were trained as spindles on St.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Carbohydrate and nitrogen reserves in two cultivars of Japanese plum grown under organic and conventional management

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2017
Nitrogen and carbohydrate (soluble sugars and starch) reserves were analysed in twig samples of 'Red Beaut' and 'Showtime' Japanese plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.) cultivars cultivated in two similar experimental orchards under organic and conventional ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Results of an orchard trial with new clonal sweet cherry rootstocks established at Holovousy and evaluated in the stage of full cropping

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2007
Ten clonal dwarf or semi-dwarf rootstocks were evaluated in a trial that was established in the spring of 1999 at Holovousy. Lapins cv. was used as a scion tester for all these rootstocks; five of them were tested also by Regina cv.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Tree growth and some other characteristics of new columnar apple cultivars bred in Holovousy, Czech Republic

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2011
Several characteristics related to tree growth, their fruitage and resistance against scab and powdery mildew were assessed during 2007-2008 on five new cultivars in comparison with the ancestral McIntosh Wijcik, in which 4 out of 5 had their pedigree ...

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Orchard performance of new plum cultivars on two rootstocks in a trial at Holovousy in 1998-2003

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2004
Thirteen plum cultivars on two rootstocks (Myrobalan and Wangenheim Prune seedlings) were studied in a trial established in the spring of 1998 at spacings 5 × 1.5 m. Trees were trained as spindles.
