Solving the Structure of eIF2 Bound to eIF2B Using Cryogenic Electron Microscopy [PDF]
Translation begins when initiation factor-2 (eIF2) delivers methionyl initiator tRNA (Met-tRNAi) to the ribosome. The exchange of GDP bound to eIF2 for GTP is a prerequisite to binding Met-tRNAi and is mediated by a second initiation factor, eIF2B ...

Preparation of Neurospora crassa mitochondria [PDF]
The fungus Neurospora crassa represents a eukaryotic cell with high biosynthetic activities. Cell mass doubles in 2-4 hr during expone ntial growth , even in simple salt media with sucrose as the sole carbon source. The microorgani sm forms a mycelium of

Genome‐wide association study of seed mineral nutrients in peas (Pisum sativum L.)
Abstract Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an important crop with high nutritional value and agricultural benefits. This study aimed to identify genetic factors that influence the levels of mineral elements (B, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, S, Zn, Co, Mo, Ni, and Se) in pea seeds. A panel of 482 genetically variable pea accessions was grown in field trials for

Molecular and classical cytogenetic analyses demonstrate an apomorphic reciprocal chromosomal translocation in Gorilla gorilla [PDF]
The existence of an apomorphic reciprocal chromosomal translocation in the gorilla lineage has been asserted or denied by various cytogeneticists. We employed a new molecular cytogenetic strategy (chromosomal in situ suppression hybridization) combined ...

OXPHOS complex deficiency in congenital myopathy: A systematic review
This systematic review assessed oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) complex dysfunction in genetically confirmed congenital myopathies (CM). Among 5841 studies screened, 23 publications, comprising 45 CM cases, met the inclusion criteria. OXPHOS dysfunction was identified in 78% of cases, particularly where enzymology was performed, with RYR1 most ...

The light and shadow of senescence and inflammation in cardiovascular pathology and regenerative medicine [PDF]
Recent epidemiologic studies evidence a dramatic increase of cardiovascular diseases, especially associated with the aging of the world population. During aging, the progressive impairment of the cardiovascular functions results from the compromised ...

Inter‐Caste Comparison Reveals a Unique Bioenergetic Signature in Long‐Lived Ant Queens
ABSTRACT Within the same species of eusocial insects, individuals of different castes typically display widely different life‐history traits: sterile workers live for a few months, while queens can live for decades. Ageing theories emphasise the importance of metabolism and oxidative stress in explaining longevity, with mitochondrial bioenergetics ...

Adenosine Triphosphatase Activities of Muscle Sarcolemma
Abstract Isolated sarcolemma hydrolyzed ATP in the presence of Mg2+ and Ca2+. MgATPase was stimulated by low concentrations of Ca2+ and inhibited by high concentrations of this cation. Membranes hydrolyzed p-nitrophenylphosphate in the presence of Mg2+; this activity was stimulated by Ca2+ and K+.
