AbstractAU‐rich elements (AREs) in the 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of numerous mammalian transcripts function as instability elements that promote rapid mRNA degradation. Tristetraprolin (TTP) is an ARE‐binding protein that promotes rapid mRNA decay through mechanisms that are poorly understood.
