Atomic mutagenesis of stop codon nucleotides reveals the chemical prerequisites for release factor-mediated peptide release. [PDF]
Termination of protein synthesis is triggered by the recognition of a stop codon at the ribosomal A site and is mediated by class I release factors (RFs).

Photoaffinity reagents for modification of aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetases [PDF]
Up to now, a few derivatives of aminoacyl-tRNA with a reactive group attached to the aminoacyl residue [l-4] and a reactive analog of an amino acid [4] have been used for the affinity labeling of aminoacyltRNA synthetases (EC 6.1 .l). For detailed investigation of the active centers of these enzymes, it is necessary to prepare tRNA analogs bearing ...

Conserved 5-methyluridine tRNA modification modulates ribosome translocation. [PDF]
While the centrality of posttranscriptional modifications to RNA biology has long been acknowledged, the function of the vast majority of modified sites remains to be discovered. Illustrative of this, there is not yet a discrete biological role assigned for one of the most highly conserved modifications, 5-methyluridine at position

Initiator tRNA genes template the 3\u27 CCA end at high frequencies in bacteria. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: While the CCA sequence at the mature 3\u27 end of tRNAs is conserved and critical for translational function, a genetic template for this sequence is not always contained in tRNA genes.

Preparation of Yeast tRNA Sample for NMR Spectroscopy
Transfer RNAs (tRNAs) are heavily decorated with post-transcriptional modifications during their biosynthesis. To fulfil their functions within cells, tRNAs undergo a tightly controlled biogenesis process leading to the formation of mature tRNAs.

Development of ListeriaBase and comparative analysis of Listeria monocytogenes [PDF]
Background: Listeria consists of both pathogenic and non-pathogenic species. Reports of similarities between the genomic content between some pathogenic and non-pathogenic species necessitates the investigation of these species at the genomic level to ...

Temperature-dependent tRNA Modifications in Bacillales
Transfer RNA (tRNA) modifications are essential for the temperature adaptation of thermophilic and psychrophilic organisms, as they control the rigidity and flexibility of transcripts. To further understand how specific tRNA modifications are adjusted to maintain functionality in response to temperature fluctuations, we investigated whether tRNA ...

Probing the diversity and regulation of tRNA modifications [PDF]
Transfer RNAs (tRNAs) are non-coding RNAs essential for protein synthesis. tRNAs are heavily decorated with a variety of post-transcriptional modifications (tRNA modifications). Recent methodological advances provide new tools for rapid profiling of tRNA modifications and have led to discoveries of novel modifications and their regulation.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A primer on tRNAs, tRNA-m1A58 modification, and tRNA derivatives in T-cell activation
Upon antigen recognition, naive CD4+ T cells are activated, exiting quiescence to undergo rapid activation, clonal expansion, and differentiation into effector functions against pathogens.
