TRPA1 as Target in Myocardial Infarction
Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily A member 1 (TRPA1), an ion channel primarily expressed on sensory neurons, can be activated by substances occurring during myocardial infarction. Aims were to investigate whether activation, inhibition, or absence of TRPA1 affects infarcts and to explore underlying mechanisms.

Chilling injury mechanism in the immature oocytes of zebrafish (Danio rerio)
Immature zebrafish oocytes are sensitive to chilling, and their survival is markedly reduced by exposure to 0°C. In the present study, we investigated the involvement of cold-sensitive channels and lipid mediators in chilling injury in immature zebrafish ...

The chemosensory transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) ion channel perceives different sensory stimuli. It also interacts with reactive exogenous compounds including the chemical warfare agent sulfur mustard (SM).

Transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1), a nonselective cation channel, contributes to several (patho)physiological processes. Smell loss is an early sign in several neurodegenerative disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and ...

Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

TRPA1 mediates sensation of the rate of temperature change in Drosophila larvae. [PDF]
Avoidance of noxious ambient heat is crucial for survival. A well-known phenomenon is that animals are sensitive to the rate of temperature change.

Sensitization of the Trigeminovascular System following Environmental Irritant Exposure [PDF]
Background Air pollution is linked to increased emergency room visits for headache, and migraine patients frequently cite chemicals or odors as headache triggers, but the association between air pollutants and headache is not well understood.

A Central Somatic Transmission Mediates Proprioceptive Facilitation of Muscle Pain
Zhang et al. uncover a novel central mechanism for persistent muscle pain, in which TRPA1 sensitization in MeV proprioceptive neurons enhances somatic secretion. This, in turn, disinhibits descending pain control from neighboring noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons via local GABAergic circuits, thereby promoting inflammatory muscle pain.

Linkage of alternative exon assembly in Drosophila TrpA1 transcripts
: Drosophila TrpA1 (transient receptor potential ankyrin 1) transcripts are alternatively spliced at 2 distinct sites each with a choice of mutually exclusive exons.
