TRPC1

2014
The TRPC1 ion channel was the first mammalian TRP channel to be cloned. In humans, it is encoded by the TRPC1 gene located in chromosome 3. The protein is predicted to consist of six transmembrane segments with the N- and C-termini located in the cytoplasm.

TRPC1: store-operated channel and more

Pflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology, 2005
Transient receptor potential canonical 1 (TRPC1) is a transmembrane protein expressed in a range of vertebrate cells including smooth muscle, endothelium, neurones and salivary gland cells. It functions as an element of a mixed cationic Ca(2+)-permeable channel, probably commonly as part of a heterotetrameric assembly involving other related proteins ...

TRPC1, TRPC3, and TRPC4 in Rat Orofacial Structures

Cells Tissues Organs, 2017
TRPC (transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily C) members are nonselective monovalent cation channels and control Ca2+ inflow. In this study, immunohistochemistry for TRPC1, TRPC3, and TRPC4 was performed on rat oral and craniofacial structures to elucidate their distribution and function in the peripheries.

TRPC1 Ca2+-Permeable Channels in Animal Cells

2007
The full-length transient receptor (TRPC)1 polypeptide is composed of about 790 amino acids, and several splice variants are known. The predicted structure and topology is of an integral membrane protein composed of six transmembrane domains, and a cytoplasmic C- and N-terminal domain.

A mechanically activated TRPC1-like current in white adipocytes

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2018
Ca2+ impacts a large array of cellular processes in every known cell type. In the white adipocyte, Ca2+ is involved in regulation of metabolic processes such as lipolysis, glucose uptake and hormone secretion. Although the importance of Ca2+ in control of white adipocyte function is clear, knowledge is still lacking regarding the control of dynamic Ca2+

Molecular determinants of TRPC1 regulation within ER–PM junctions

Cell Calcium, 2015
Store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) is activated within the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-plasma membrane (PM) junctions in the plasma membrane and involves assembly of the channels, Orai1 and TRPC1, with the regulatory protein, STIM1, in response to depletion of Ca(2+) in the ER.

TRPC1 is required for directed cell migration

The FASEB Journal, 2008
Lamellipodial protrusion and directed cell migration depends on cellular asymmetry and the arrangement of forces generated in different regions of the cell. Fine‐tuned cytosolic Ca 2+ signals that are critical for coordinating theses forces originate among others from stretch‐activated Ca

Upregulation of TRPC1 in the development of cardiac hypertrophy

Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, 2007
The importance of Ca(2+) entry in the cardiac hypertrophic response is well documented, but the actual Ca(2+) entry channels remain unknown. Transient receptor potential (TRP) proteins are thought to form either homo- or heteromeric Ca(2+) entry channels that are involved in the proliferation and differentiation of various cells.

STIM1 converts TRPC1 from a receptor-operated to a store-operated channel: Moving TRPC1 in and out of lipid rafts

Cell Calcium, 2008
While the role of members from the TRPC family of channels as receptor-operated channels (ROC) is well established and supported by numerous studies, the role of this family of channels as store-operated channels (SOC) has been the focus of a heated controversy over the last few years.

Loss of Endothelial TRPC1 Induces Aortic Hypercontractility and Hypertension

Circulation Research
BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of obesity-related cardiovascular diseases demands a better understanding of the contribution of different cell types to vascular function for developing new treatment strategies. Previous studies have established a fundamental role of TRPC1 (transient receptor potential channel canonical ...
