STANDARDIZATION OF THE TRYPANOCIDAL TEST AND OF THE TRYPANOCIDAL VALUE OF ARSPHENAMINE

Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1928
The therapeutic value of arsphenamine was established by Ehrlich and Hata 1 as a result of experiments on various animals (mice, rats, chickens and rabbits) inoculated with syphilis, trypanosomiasis, chicken spirillosis and recurrent fever. The nature of these diseases is such as to permit of a more or less direct observation of the effect of the drug ...

Trypanocidal effects of catecholamines and indolealkylamines

Annals of Tropical Medicine & Parasitology, 1990
Catecholamines, indolealkylamines and their analogues are oxidized at neutral or alkaline pH, producing hydrogen peroxide, quinones and free radicals. Several of these amines were tested for trypanocidal effects on Trypanosoma brucei, which possess a well-documented vulnerability to such oxidation products.

The Trypanocidal Effect of Nucleocidin In vivo

The Journal of Parasitology, 1957
During the past few years the first reports have been made of antibiotics which are effective against trypanosomes in vivo. McCowan et al (1953) reported that erythromycin prevented death of mice infected with Trypanosoma equiperdum. Hewitt et al (1953) found that puromycin (Stylomycin) was effective against T. equiperdum and T.

Synthesis of Potential Trypanocides

1987
Abstract : This report describes the synthesis of new compounds for evaluation as antiparasitic agents. Most of the biological data pertain to activity against Trypanosoma rhodesiense but limited data pertaining to leishmania, filarius and plasmodium are also included. Biological data is included for compounds prepared in an earlier contract. The salts
