Unexpected plasticity in the life cycle of Trypanosoma brucei
African trypanosomes cause sleeping sickness in humans and nagana in cattle. These unicellular parasites are transmitted by the bloodsucking tsetse fly. In the mammalian host’s circulation, proliferating slender stage cells differentiate into cell cycle ...

Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.

Neuropathogenesis caused by Trypanosoma brucei, still an enigma to be unveiled
Trypanosoma brucei is one of the protozoa parasites that can enter the brain and cause injury associated with toxic effects of parasite-derived molecules or with immune responses against infection.

Frequency and diversity of trypanosomes in sheep and goats from Mongo County in South Gabon, Central Africa [PDF]
Background and Aim: Trypanosomosis is a major impediment to livestock farming in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a vector-borne disease caused by several species of protozoan parasites, namely, trypanosomes. The present study aimed to identify the diversity of

ABSTRACT Effective vaccines against Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease, are urgently needed. Here, we report the design and in silico validation of a novel multiepitope vaccine construct targeting the key surface proteins ASP‐2 and gp82. Using a comprehensive immunoinformatics pipeline, we identified and selected 38 potent T‐cell (

Protein Profiles of Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rangeli [PDF]
Trypanosoma cruzi, is a protozoan parasite, which has a close phylogenetic relationship with Trypanosoma rangeli that is not pathogenic for the vertebrate host. Both parasites have antigenic similarity, they have different and complex total protein profiles according to their morphological and physiological stage epimastigotes or trypomastigotes ...

Post‐LECA Origin and Diversification of an Axonemal Outer Arm Dynein Motor
ABSTRACT Dyneins were present in the last eukaryotic common ancestor (LECA) and play key roles in eukaryotic biology. Axonemal dyneins form the inner and outer arms that power ciliary beating, and it has long been recognized that outer arms in some organisms contain two different heavy chain motors, whereas those from other species contain a third unit

Trypanosoma evansi as a Major Cause of Animal Trypanosomiasis: A Comprehensive Review
Trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma evansi is a major protozoan illness that affects animals worldwide. It is also referred to as “surra” and affects a variety if wild and domestic animals such as sheep, cattle, goats, dogs, buffaloes, pigs, elephants,

Calpain Proteases and the Evolving Signaling Network in Insect Embryonic Patterning
Insect embryonic Dorsal‐Ventral (DV) patterning relies on the BMP and Toll pathways to different extents. Calcium‐dependent cystein proteases of the Calpain family also exert an important function to pattern the DV axis. In Drosophila, Calpain A cleaves the Cactus/IkappaB inhibitor and modifies Toll signals in ventral regions of the embryo. In Rhodnius
