Mass spectrometry of tryptamines and acetylated tryptamine derivatives
Analytical Biochemistry, 1972Abstract Eleven mass spectra of biologically important tryptamines and their acetylated derivatives are recorded in this paper. For diagnostic purposes, the N -acetyltryptamines are preferred over other derivatives because they undergo the fewest significant rearrangements upon electron impact.

Tryptamine Metabolism in Depression
British Journal of Psychiatry, 1965In a previous investigation we showed that large doses of DL-tryptophan (214 mg./kg. body weight) given to depressed patients receiving tranylcypromine (a monoamine oxidase inhibitor) potentiated the antidepressive effects of the drug (Coppen, Shaw and Farrell, 1963). This procedure increases the level of brain 5-hydroxytryptamine (5 HT) and tryptamine

Tryptamine and Serotonin Receptors
Nature, 1962A RECENT communication by Vane et al. entitled “Tryptamine Receptors in the Central Nervous System”1 concluded, on the basis of indirect evidence, that the receptors for tryptamine and for serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) were the same. Because the authors neglected to mention some earlier evidence of a more direct kind which showed clearly that certain

Tryptamine in the vertebrate lens
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 1983Abstract The normal ionic balance and transparency of the lens is regulated by Na + −K + pumps in the lens epithelium and lens fibers. Inhibition of the (Na + +K + )-ATPase and ion transport results in osmotic swelling and opacification. We have previously shown that 10 −4 –10 −3 M tryptamine has an inhibitory effect on both ion transport and ...

Psychopharmacologia, 1972
A modification of the method of Hess and Udenfriend (1959) for the extraction and identification of tryptamine, as well as a gas chromatographic method for identifying tryptamine, has been described. Tryptamine, using these methods, as well as thin layer chromatography, has been identified in steer, dog and human brain.

Photoinduced processes in protonated tryptamine
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2005The electronic excited state dynamics of protonated tryptamine ions generated by an electrospray source have been studied by means of photoinduced dissociation technique on the femtosecond time scale. The result is that the initially excited state decays very quickly within 250fs.

Catecholamines and Tryptamines
1969Catecholamines are represented in the vertebrate nervous system most notably by noradrenaline (NA) and dopamine (DA), but also by the precursor compounds and related ones. Tryptamines are represented primarily by 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT or serotonin), but tryptamine itself has been detected there as well.
