An atlas of the developing Tribolium castaneum brain reveals conservation in anatomy and divergence in timing to Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 530, Issue 13, Page 2335-2371, September 2022., 2022
We examined the developing brain of the beetle Tribolium castaneum. We determined tracts, fascicles, and compartments (a) by combining tubulin and synapsin stainings (b) in three developing stages (b’). The result is a comprehensive anatomical atlas (c) that was compared with the fruitfly and is provided for user‐friendly interaction (d).

Distribution of neurogranin‐like immunoreactivity in the brain and sensory organs of the adult zebrafish

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 530, Issue 10, Page 1569-1587, July 2022., 2022
The expression and distribution of mammalian neurogranin‐like peptides were studied in the brain and sensory organs of adult zebrafish by means of immunocytochemical methods. Results indicate the relation of these neuropeptides with primary and highly integrative centers and suggest a divergent evolution in teleosts.

Rib Cross‐Sectional Mineralized Area in Early Pleistocene Hominins: Insights From the Homo antecessor and H. erectus s. l. Fossil Record

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 190, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Rib cross‐sectional mineralized area provides valuable insights into mechanical loading and bone growth and remodeling. Given the scarcity of Early Pleistocene costal remains in the context of human evolution, we aimed to study the cross‐sectional anatomy of fossil ribs from that period and compare them to a modern human ontogenetic
