PHARMACODYNAMICS OF TUBOCURARINE IN HUMANS

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 1976
The pharmacodynamics of neuromuscular transmission, following blockade by a single i.v. dose of tubocurarine (dtc) in humans, were simulated from experimental serum dtc concentration versus time data and serum dtc concentration versus percentage recovery data. Good agreement was obtained between the simulated and experimental time course of recovery at

Antagonism by hemoglobin of effects induced by L-arginine in neuromuscular preparations from rats

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2001
Nitric oxide (NO)-synthase is present in diaphragm, phrenic nerve and vascular smooth muscle. It has been shown that the NO precursor L-arginine (L-Arg) at the presynaptic level increases the amplitude of muscular contraction (AMC) and induces tetanic ...

Acetylcholine-induced inhibition of presynaptic calcium signals and transmitter release in the frog neuromuscular junction

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
Acetylcholine (ACh), released from axonal terminals of motor neurones in neuromuscular junctions regulates the efficacy of neurotransmission through activation of presynaptic nicotinic and muscarinic autoreceptors.

Bottom‐Up Engineering of a Human Neuromuscular System for Modeling Activity‐Induced Remodeling, Metabolic Stress, and Endothelial‐Modulated Excitability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Using a bottom‐up approach, we engineered a human neuromuscular microchip to investigate distinct adaptive responses to neural stimulation and metabolic stress. Further integration of endothelial cells revealed their critical role in modulating neuromuscular excitability, establishing a comprehensive neurovascular‐muscular model.

Effects of d-tubocurarine on the submandibular salivary gland

open access: yes, 1960
First injections of d-tubocurarine in doses of 0.3–1.5 mg (2–10 u) into the arterial blood supply, limited to acutely denervated submandibular salivary glands of anesthetized dogs, resulted in a prompt and large transient increase in the blood flow ...

Effect of differentiation, de novo innervation, and electrical pulse stimulation on mRNA and protein expression of Na+,K+-ATPase, FXYD1, and FXYD5 in cultured human skeletal muscle cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Denervation reduces the abundance of Na+,K+-ATPase (NKA) in skeletal muscle, while reinnervation increases it. Primary human skeletal muscle cells, the most widely used model to study human skeletal muscle in vitro, are usually cultured as myoblasts or ...

Engineering In Vitro Models of Skeletal Muscle With Neuromuscular Junctions Using Hierarchical Micro‐Nano Biomaterials: Cooperative Effect of Adhesion Ligand Nanoclustering and Surface Anisotropy

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This study investigates the cooperative effects of adhesive ligand distribution, density, and biomaterial morphology for innervated skeletal muscle tissue engineering. Ligand nanoclusters were created in aligned micropatterns by electrospinning of a RAFT‐synthesized polymer with controlled ligand presentation.

The pharmacology of hSK1 Ca2+-activated K+ channels expressed in mammalian cell lines. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The pharmacology of hSK1, a small conductance calcium-activated potassium channel, was studied in mammalian cell lines (HEK293 and COS-7). In these cell types, hSK1 forms an apamin-sensitive channel with an IC(50) for apamin of 8 nM in HEK293 cells and ...

Component of nicotine-induced intracellular calcium elevation mediated through α3- and α5-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors are regulated by cyclic AMP in SH-SY 5Y cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
The pathway from the medial habenular nucleus to the interpeduncular nucleus, in which nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) including the α3 and α5 subunits (α3 * and α5 * nAChRs) are expressed, is implicated in nicotine dependence.

Anaphylactoid response to intravenous tubocurarine [PDF]

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 1979
A case of severe anaphylactoid reaction to tubocurarine in a 42-year-old female is described. This is particularly notable as there was no history of past allergies or of previous exposure to the drug.
