Towards a more accurate annotation of tyrosine-based site-specific recombinases in bacterial genomes [PDF]

open access: yesMobile DNA, 2012
Abstract Background Tyrosine-based site-specific recombinases (TBSSRs) are DNA breaking-rejoining enzymes. In bacterial genomes, they play a major role in the comings and goings of mobile genetic elements (MGEs), such as temperate phage genomes, integrated conjugative elements (ICEs) or integron cassettes.

Integrase-associated niche differentiation of endogenous large DNA viruses in crustaceans

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Crustacean genomes harbor sequences originating from nimaviruses, a family of large double-stranded DNA viruses infecting crustaceans. In this study, we recovered metagenome-assembled genomes of 27 endogenous nimaviruses from crustacean genome data ...

Image_3_In vitro DNA Inversions Mediated by the PsrA Site-Specific Tyrosine Recombinase of Streptococcus pneumoniae.TIF

open access: yes, 2020
Site-specific recombination is a DNA breaking and reconstructing process that plays important roles in various cellular pathways for both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. This process requires a site-specific recombinase and direct or inverted repeats.

Targeting Catecholaminergic Systems in Transgenic Rats With a CAV-2 Vector Harboring a Cre-Dependent DREADD Cassette

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2020
Techniques that allow the manipulation of specific neural circuits have greatly increased in the past few years. DREADDs (Designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs) provide an elegant way to manipulate individual brain structures and/or ...

Helicobacter Pylori's plasticity zones are novel transposable elements. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
BACKGROUND:Genes present in only certain strains of a bacterial species can strongly affect cellular phenotypes and evolutionary potentials. One segment that seemed particularly rich in strain-specific genes was found by comparing the first two sequenced

Discovery and characterization of novel Cre-type tyrosine site-specific recombinases for advanced genome engineering

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2023
Abstract Tyrosine-type site-specific recombinases (Y-SSRs) are versatile tools for genome engineering due to their ability to mediate excision, integration, inversion and exchange of genomic DNA with single nucleotide precision. The ever-increasing need for sophisticated genome engineering is driving efforts to identify novel SSR systems

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

The role of tyrosine phosphatase Shp2 in spermatogonial differentiation and spermatocyte meiosis

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2020
The transition from spermatogonia to spermatocytes and the initiation of meiosis are key steps in spermatogenesis and are precisely regulated by a plethora of proteins. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains largely unknown.
