Cloning, Expression, and Characterization of a New PL25 Family Ulvan Lyase from Marine Bacterium Alteromonas sp. A321

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2019
Ulvan lyases can degrade ulvan to oligosaccharides with potent biological activity. A new ulvan lyase gene, ALT3695, was identified in Alteromonas sp. A321. Soluble expression of ALT3695 was achieved in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3).

Ulvan-Based Nanofibrous Patches Enhance Wound Healing of Skin Trauma Resulting from Cryosurgical Treatment of Keloids

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2022
Keloids are skin fibroproliferative disorders, resulting from abnormal healing of deep cutaneous injuries. Cryosurgery, the most common treatment for keloids, causes skin traumas.

High Levels of Straying in Returning, Repeat‐Spawning Atlantic Salmon Between Two Neighbouring Danish Rivers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
We studied the seaward and return migration of Atlantic salmon kelts from both wild and hatchery origin in River Skjern, Denmark. Of the 199 tagged animals, 110 reached the ocean (55%). Only 10 kelts were recorded returning after spending more than 1 year at sea.

Ulvan-mediated biogenic selenium nanoparticles enhance bone fracture healing in a rat model

open access: yesOpen Chemistry
Bone fractures remain a significant clinical challenge, with current treatments often facing limitations. This study investigated the potential of ulvan-mediated biogenic selenium nanoparticles (Ulvan-SeNPs) to enhance bone fracture healing through ...

Ulvan/Silver nanoparticle hydrogel films for burn wound dressing

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Ulvan is a polysaccharide from green algae that shows good hydrogel film dressing characteristics. Silver nanoparticles (AgNP) can be incorporated into the hydrogel film to improve antibacterial properties and provide a potential burn treatment.

Ulva lactuca Extract in Confectionery Systems: A Sustainable Approach to Natural Pigmentation, Antioxidant Enrichment, and Sensory Optimization in Fondant and Meringue Matrices

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2026.
This study evaluated the functional potential of Ulva lactuca extract as a natural colorant and antioxidant incorporated into sugar‐based (fondant) and aerated (meringue) confectionery matrices. Extract incorporation significantly enriched total phenolic content—achieving up to 150.95 mg GAE/100 g dry matter in meringues—and surged antioxidant ...

Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) kelt rheotaxis and position choice are influenced by flow velocity and turbulence in a regulated river

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 108, Issue 6, Page 1889-1905, June 2026.
Abstract The migratory behaviour of Atlantic salmon kelts is poorly understood. Due to the Atlantic salmon's considerable socio‐economic and ecological importance, their precipitous population abundance declines, and the population resilience potential of salmon kelts, addressing these knowledge gaps is important.

The Antihyperlipidemic Mechanism of High Sulfate Content Ulvan in Rats [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2015
Numerous studies have suggested that hyperlipidemia is closely linked to cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible antihyperlipidemia mechanism of HU (high sulfate content of ulvan) in high-cholesterol fed rats. Wistar rats were made hyperlipidemic by feeding with a high-cholesterol diet. HU was administered to these
