Effect of acute uncomplicated malaria on platelet counts

open access: yesNigerian Postgraduate Medical Journal, 2005
To determine the effect of uncomplicated malaria on platelet count.Adult Nigerians (residing in the Lagos metropolis) who were diagnosed as having uncomplicated malaria were treated with a standard regime of chloroquine. Platelet counts were obtained before treatment, Day 0, and again on day 14 when parasitaemia had been cleared in the patients.

Enantiospecific Acid‐Catalysed Hydroperoxidation of Scalemic Tertiary Benzylic Alcohols Facilitating a Concise Asymmetric Synthesis of Yingzhaosu C

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Asymmetric synthesis of antimalarial yingzhaosu C was achieved in 4–5 steps by asymmetric Grignard synthesis of (R)‐gossonorol followed by novel enantiospecific hydroperoxidation. We report a concise asymmetric synthesis of antimalarial yingzhaosu C in 59% ee.
