Effects of catechins, resveratrol, silymarin components and some of their conjugates on xanthine oxidase‐catalyzed xanthine and 6‐mercaptopurine oxidation

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 105, Issue 5, Page 2765-2776, 30 March 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND Over the past two decades, the global incidence of gout has markedly increased, affecting people worldwide. Considering the side effects of xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor drugs (e.g. allopurinol and febuxostat) used in the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout, the potential application of phytochemicals has been widely studied.

Soybean plant architecture influences the capacity of Telenomus podisi to parasitize Euschistus heros eggs: implications for field releases

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing soybean plant architectural complexity reduces the ability of Telenomus podisi to parasitize Euschistus heros eggs, highlighting the need to adjust parasitoid release rates in the field according to plant complexity (arrow direction and thickness correspond to the increasing strength of the variable) . Abstract BACKGROUND Plant architectural

Urate uptake in oocytes.

open access: yes, 2014
Transport activity is expressed as % urate uptake in oocytes injected with 50 ng of cRNA encoding the wild-type or the particular analyzed allelic variants. The uptake of 100 µM [14C]urate in oocytes was measured after 30 minutes incubation.

Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) signaling regulates fluid excretion and uric acid metabolism in the mosquito Anopheles gambiae

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) signaling via its receptor has integral roles in mosquito physiology, mediating fluid excretion, stimulating hindgut contractions, and in modulating uric acid levels. Together, these results uncover previously unrecognized roles of prostaglandin signaling in osmotic balance and metabolic homeostasis in mosquitoes.

Carrier-mediated concentrative urate transport in rat renal membrane vesicles

open access: yes, 1985
[2-14C]Urate uptake and efflux were studied in brush border and basolateral membrane vesicles of rat renal cortex that were exposed to 20 microM copper chloride.

Triangulating Evidence on Serum Uric Acid and Cancer Risk: Consistent Inverse Associations With Lung Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Using both conventional observational and Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses in the same Japanese community‐dwelling population, the evidence consistently supported an inverse association between the serum uric acid level and lung cancer risk. ABSTRACT We examined the association between serum uric acid (UA) levels and cancer incidence through a ...

Urate kinetics in hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase deficiency: Their significance for the understanding of gout

open access: yes, 1976
Urate production (miscible urate pool and turnover, daily production, glycine incorporation into urate) and urate excretion (24 hour urinary urate excretion on a purine free diet, renal clearances of urate and creatinine, per cent renal excretion of ...

Urate as a CO3•− Scavenger and Regulator of SOD-1 and OGG1 Enzymes: Insights from DFT, Molecular Docking, and Molecular Dynamics

open access: yesAntioxidants
The potency of urate, an abundant human plasma antioxidant, in preventing oxidative damage caused by the carbonate radical anion CO3•−, was studied using quantum chemical calculations.

Multisystem developmental abnormalities and insulin resistance in ADTKD‐HNF1B with the p.E105K variant: A clinical conundrum

open access: yesDiabetic Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims HNF1B variants cause autosomal dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease (ADTKD‐HNF1B), but the phenotypic spectrum of variants of uncertain significance (VUS) remains incompletely defined. We aimed to characterise the multisystem phenotype associated with the HNF1B p.E105K variant and to examine the mechanism underlying insulin ...

Genetic Variants of Serum Uric Acid and Gout: An Analysis of > 170,000 Individuals

open access: yes, 2012
Background/Purpose: Gout is a common and excruciatingly painful inflammatory arthritis caused by hyperuricemia. In addition to various lifestyle risk factors, a substantial genetic predisposition to gout has long been recognized.
