Therapeutic potential of natural products in cancer immunotherapy: Advances and challenges

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
This review systematically outlines the mechanisms underlying tumour immunotherapy resistance and elucidates the role of natural products in enhancing therapeutic efficacy as immunomodulatory adjuvants. Abstract Immunotherapy has emerged as a clinically pivotal approach in cancer treatment, but its application remains limited to a small subset of ...

Mediation of antitumor activity by AZD4820 oncolytic vaccinia virus encoding IL-12

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Oncology
Oncolytic viruses are engineered to selectively kill tumor cells and have demonstrated promising results in early-phase clinical trials. To further modulate the innate and adaptive immune system, we generated AZD4820, a vaccinia virus engineered to ...

Recombinant Poxvirus and the Tumor Microenvironment: Oncolysis, Immune Regulation and Immunization

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2016
Oncolytic viruses (OVs) are being extensively studied for their potential roles in the development of cancer therapy regimens. In addition to their direct lytic effects, OVs can initiate and drive systemic antitumor immunity indirectly via release of ...

Induction of cytolytic T lymphocytes directed towards the V3 loop of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 external glycoprotein gp120 by p55gag/V3 chimeric vaccinia viruses

open access: yes, 1993
T cell-mediated cytotoxicity may play an important role in controlling infection by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In order to study the ability of rationally designed antigens to induce cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTLs) we replaced stretches of 30 to ...

A randomised, double-blind, controlled vaccine efficacy trial of DNA/MVA ME-TRAP against malaria infection in Gambian adults. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
BACKGROUND: Many malaria vaccines are currently in development, although very few have been evaluated for efficacy in the field. Plasmodium falciparum multiple epitope (ME)- thrombospondin-related adhesion protein (TRAP) candidate vaccines are designed ...

Oncolytic Vaccinia Virus‐HSP70‐shRNA Amplifies Viral Replication, ROS/Autophagy, and Immunity to Fight Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
OncoVV‑shHSP70, a vaccinia virus silencing HSP70, demonstrated potent antitumor efficacy in colorectal cancer cell lines, as well as in syngeneic, xenograft, and humanized mouse models. In cell lines, oncoVV‑shHSP70 promoted viral oncolysis and cytokine production through a self‑reinforcing cycle of ROS‑autophagy. In both CT26 and SW620‑humanized mouse

Mass Smallpox Vaccination and Cardiac Deaths, New York City, 1947

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2004
In April 1947, during a smallpox outbreak in New York City (NYC), >6,000,000 people were vaccinated. To determine whether vaccination increased cardiac death, we reviewed NYC death certificates for comparable periods in 1946 and 1948 (N = 81,529) and ...

Antitumor efficacy of cytosine deaminase-armed vaccinia virus plus 5-fluorocytosine in colorectal cancers

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2020
Background Vaccinia viruses have emerged as attractive therapeutic candidates for cancer treatment due to their inherent ability of tumor tropism and oncolytic property.

Triple‐Mutated HSV‐1 Expressing Soluble B7‐1 Plus CTLA‐4 Blockade Suppresses Lymph Node Metastasis in Tongue Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
In murine tongue cancer models, T‐mB7‐1, a triple‐mutated oncolytic herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV‐1) engineered to express soluble B7‐1, suppresses cervical lymph node metastasis and improves survival, addressing a major prognostic determinant in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).
