Generation of recombinant vaccinia virus and analysis of virus-induced cell death
Summary: Vaccinia virus is a large double-stranded DNA virus that is widely used to express foreign genes from different origins. We generated recombinant vaccinia virus that expresses a viral inhibitor to examine its effect on virus-induced necroptosis.

Does limited virucidal activity of biocides include duck hepatitis B virucidal action? [PDF]
BACKGROUND: There is agreement that the infectivity assay with the duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) is a suitable surrogate test to validate disinfectants for hepatitis B virucidal activity.

Inclusion Bodies of the Vaccinia Virus.
SummaryTwo kinds of inclusion bodies, “A” and “B” type, exist in tissues infected with ectromelia, fowl pox and vaccinia viruses. “B” type inclusion bodies of these 3 pox group viruses have almost the same morphological and cytochemical characters. The “A” type inclusion bodies of these viruses differ according to virus and host cell.

A novel high-throughput vaccinia virus neutralization assay and preexisting immunity in populations from different geographic regions in China. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Pre-existing immunity to Vaccinia Tian Tan virus (VTT) resulting from a large vaccination campaign against smallpox prior to the early 1980s in China, has been a major issue for application of VTT-vector based vaccines.

Abstract This case series describes aural lesions occurring in five African giant pouched rats (Cricetomys ansorgei) residing at a single zoological institution in southern California. Age of onset ranged from 3 to 7 years. Lesions occurred as single or multiple masses on one or both ears. A single case also developed a nasal mass.

Atomic force microscopy shows that vaccinia topoisomerase IB generates filaments on DNA in a cooperative fashion [PDF]
Type IB DNA topoisomerases cleave and rejoin one strand of the DNA duplex, allowing for the removal of supercoils generated during replication and transcription.

Vaccinia virus is capable of replicating in a wide range of vertebrate animal cells. However, deletion of the two virus host range genes, E3L and K3L, would render replication of the virus abortive in all the cell types tested, except the cells with ...

Ocular Vaccinia Infection in Dairy Worker, Brazil
We studied a clinical case of vaccinia virus that caused an ocular manifestation in a dairy worker in Brazil. Biologic and molecular analyses identified a co-infection with 2 isolates from different Brazilian vaccinia virus phylogenetic groups.
