Dynamic modelling and control of variable stiffness actuators

2010 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2010
After briefly summarizing the mechanical design of the two joint prototypes for the new DLR variable compliance arm, the paper exemplifies the dynamic modelling of one of the prototypes and proposes a generic variable stiffness joint model for nonlinear control design.

Drum stroke variation using Variable Stiffness Actuators

2014 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2014
One interesting field of robotics technology is related to the entertainment industry. Performing a musical piece using a robot is a difficult task because music presents many features like melody, rhythm, tone, harmony and so on. Addressing these tasks with a robot is not trivial to implement.

Torque Estimation in Variable Stiffness Actuators

2016 International Conference on Systems Informatics, Modelling and Simulation (SIMS), 2016
For the use in rehabilitation robotic devices, various types of actuators are currently being investigated. Variable impedance actuators seem promising concerning individualized training, comfort and safety. For the control of actuators, some sensors are required, however, to keep the rehabilitation device light, also the implementation of measuring ...

A novel variable stiffness actuator: Minimizing the energy requirements for the stiffness regulation

2010 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology, 2010
The design of robots required to work in the close vicinity or physically interact with humans such as humanoids machines, rehabilitation or human performance augmentation systems should not follow the traditional design rule 'stiffer is better'. Safety is a particularly vital concern in these systems and to maximize it a different design approach ...
