Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

Vascular endothelial growth factor-C reduce the cytotoxicity of cispaltin on human kidney tubular epithelial cells

open access: yesLinchuang shenzangbing zazhi, 2015
Objective To identify the mRNA expression of VEGF-C on HK-2 cells induced by differrent concentrations of cisplatin and the impact of VEGF-C on the cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity of HK-2cells,and to explore the possible mechanisms. Methods HK-2 cells ...

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Alternagin-C, a disintegrin-like protein from the venom of Bothrops alternatus, modulates a2ß1 integrin-mediated cell adhesion, migration and proliferation

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2005
The alpha2ß1 integrin is a major collagen receptor that plays an essential role in the adhesion of normal and tumor cells to the extracellular matrix.

Expression and Prognostic Value of VEGF-C and Lymphangeogenesis
in Lung Adenocarcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesChinese Journal of Lung Cancer, 2011
Background and objective Vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C), a member of the VEGF family, has been proven to be a relatively special VEGF. When binding to its receptor VEGFR-3, it activates lymphangiogenesis, which likely induces lymph node ...

Dual control of vascular tone and remodelling by ATP released from nerves and endothelial cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Purinergic signalling is important both in short-term control of vascular tone and in longer-term control of cell proliferation, migration and death involved in vascular remodelling.

Screening of the transcriptional regulatory regions of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has neurotrophic activity which is mediated by its main agonist receptor, VEGFR2. Dysregulation of VEGF causes motor neurone degeneration in a mouse model of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and

Promotion of graft survival by vascular endothelial growth factor a neutralization after high-risk corneal transplantation.

open access: yesA M A Archives of Ophthalmology, 2008
OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether hemangiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, and concomitant invasion of mononuclear phagocytes occurring after high-risk corneal transplantation in already vascularized high-risk recipient corneal beds increase the risk for ...

The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Angiogenesis in tissue engineering : Breathing life into constructed tissue substitutes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Long-term function of three-dimensional (3D) tissue constructs depends on adequate vascularization after implantation. Accordingly, research in tissue engineering has focused on the analysis of angiogenesis.
