Recent advances in ocular drug delivery systems and targeting VEGF receptors for management of ocular angiogenesis: A comprehensive review

open access: yesFuture Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2021
Background Angiogenic ocular diseases address the main source of vision impairment or irreversible vision loss. The angiogenesis process depends on the balance between the pro-angiogenic and anti-angiogenic factors.

Drug treatment of hypertension: focus on vascular health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hypertension, the most common preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and death, is a growing health burden. Serious cardiovascular complications result from target organ damage including cerebrovascular disease, heart failure, ischaemic heart

Potential mechanisms involved on how systemic IgG antibodies specific to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and induced by active immunotherapy decrease platelet derived free-VEGF

open access: yesPlatelets, 2022
CIGB-247 is a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-based active immunotherapy and it is currently under investigation for cancer treatment. This specific active immunotherapy encompasses two vaccine candidates that use a human VEGF variant molecule ...

Vascular endothelial growth factor‐C in activating vascular endothelial growth factor receptor‐3 and chemokine receptor‐4 in melanoma adhesion

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, 2022
AbstractVascular endothelial growth factor‐C (VEGF‐C) binds to receptor vascular endothelial growth factor receptor‐3 (VEGFR‐3) expressed on lymphatic endothelial and melanoma cells. Binding of VEGF‐C to VEGFR‐3 enhances receptor phosphorylation that activates mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAP‐K) and phosphatidylinositol‐3‐kinase (PI3K).

Tumor angiogenesis and anti-angiogenic therapy in malignant gliomas revisited [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The cellular and molecular mechanisms of tumor angiogenesis and its prospects for anti-angiogenic cancer therapy are major issues in almost all current concepts of both cancer biology and targeted cancer therapy. Currently, (1) sprouting angiogenesis, (2)

Expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor 1-α and Vascular endothelial growth factor-C in locally advanced breast cancer patients

open access: yesClinics, 2011
BACKGROUND: Locally advanced breast cancers are more prevalent in underdeveloped countries. Targeted therapy has been improved to identify hallmarks that are specific to these subtypes of tumors.

Recent developments in receptor tyrosine kinases targeted anticancer therapy [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2016
Novel concepts and understanding of receptors lead to discoveries and optimization of many small molecules and antibodies as anti-cancerous drugs. Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) are such a promising class of receptors under the investigation in past ...

Vascular endothelial growth factor C promotes survival of retinal vascular endothelial cells via vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Ophthalmology, 2006
To determine vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C) expression in retinal endothelial cells, its antiapoptotic potential and its putative role in diabetic retinopathy.Cultured retinal endothelial cells and pericytes were exposed to tumour necrosis factor (TNF)alpha and VEGF-C expression determined by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain ...

The complex TIE between macrophages and angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Macrophages are primarily known as phagocytic immune cells, but they also play a role in diverse processes, such as morphogenesis, homeostasis and regeneration.

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-1 Modulates Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-Mediated Angiogenesis via Nitric Oxide [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Pathology, 2001
The known responses of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) are mediated through VEGF receptor-2 (VEGFR-2/KDR) in endothelial cells. However, it is unknown whether VEGFR-1 (Flt-1) is an inert decoy or a signaling receptor for VEGF during physiological or pathological angiogenesis.
