Biointerface Membranes Orchestrating Site‐Specific Osteoimmunomodulatory and Antibacterial Effects for Enhanced Osseous Regeneration in Periodontal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, a biointerface membrane engineered with site‐specific interfacial properties is developed. During implantation between gingival and bone defect, the membrane creates a pro‐osteogenic microenvironment, precisely modulates cellular activities at each biointerface, and facilitates the orchestration of complex healing events, ultimately leading to ...

Bone growth following demineralized bone matrix implantation requires angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Angiogenesis is required for endochondral ossification during development and fracture healing; however the exact mechanisms and temporal relationship between the two processes remains unclear.

The impact of KRAS mutations on VEGF-A production and tumour vascular network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: The malignant potential of tumour cells may be influenced by the molecular nature of KRAS mutations being codon 13 mutations less aggressive than codon 12 ones. Their metabolic profile is also different, with an increased anaerobic glycolytic

Self‐Feeding of Engineered Tissues via Controlled Glucose Release Facilitates Survival and Vascularization of Living Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Engineering living matter has great clinical potential to deliver functional replacement organs. However, clinical translation remains hampered by the current inability to maintain viability of clinically relevant‐sized constructs. During the pre‐vascular phase, implants rely on nutrient diffusion for survival, which is insufficient at ...

Overexpression of miRNA-125a-5p inhibits the growth and angiogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma by regulating the expression of VEGF-A

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2019
The aim of the present study was to investigate whether miRNA (miRNA or miR)-125a-5p regulates angiogenesis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) via VEGF-A. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the expression of

Gold Nanoclusters as Dual Agents for Engineering Tumor Vascular Leakiness and Performing Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Many cancer nanotherapeutics, while potent, suffer from the inability to escape from the tumor vasculature, especially in the absence of endothelial permeability. In this work, ultrasmall gold nanoclusters could engineer nanomaterials induced endothelial leakiness (NanoEL) and harness strong NIR induced photothermal characteristics to suppress tumor ...

Role of VEGF-A in Pancreatic Beta Cells

open access: yesEndocrine Journal, 2010
The islet contains a dense vascular structure of several features. The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A in beta cells is indispensable for the formation of this structure. Thus, the beta cell-specific VEGF-A-deficient mouse (RIP-Cre:Vegf(fl/fl)) is useful for studying the role of the islet vasculature on the function of islets ...

MagPiezo: A Magnetogenetic Platform for Remote Activation of Endogenous Piezo1 Channels in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MagPiezo enables wireless activation of endogenous Piezo1 channels without genetic modification using 19 nm magnetic nanoparticles and low‐intensity magnetic fields. It generates torque forces at the piconewton scale to trigger mechanotransduction in endothelial cells, standing as a novel platform to interrogate and manipulate Piezo1 activity in vitro.
