Withania somnifera seed extract and powder improved metabolic parameters in rats, particularly at higher extract doses, without evident hepatic, renal, hematological, or histopathological toxicity. Molecular docking further predicted strong DPP‐4 inhibitory potential of withanone, supporting the antidiabetic potential of W. somnifera seeds.

Ventilator-induced lung injury
Mechanical ventilation has become essential for the support of critically ill patients; however, it can cause ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) or aggravate ventilator-associated lung injury (VALI), contributing to the high mortality rates observed ...

Monocyte inflammation and adaptive immune dysfunction in severe Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia
Severe Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia combines intense inflammation with failure to control infection, yet the cellular basis is unclear. Using a severity‐focused single‐cell atlas of 708,894 peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 100 individuals, complemented by plasma protein measurements and flow cytometry, we show that disease severity redirects ...

Compare Serum VCAM‐1, NSE, Procalcitonin in Predict Sepsis Induced Encephalopathy in Septic Patients
Serum VCAM‐1 is associated with septic encephalopathy in the first 7 days of sepsis. NSE and procalcitonin were not associated with septic encephalopathy. ABSTRACT Background Sepsis‐associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a common complication of severe sepsis. Increased concentration of Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule 1 (VCAM‐1) is associated with SAE in a

This propensity score‐matched study compared unfractionated heparin (UFH) and low‐molecular‐weight heparin (LMWH) in 1362 sepsis patients, finding that both significantly improved survival without increasing 90‐day bleeding risk. However, their therapeutic mechanisms differed: UFH demonstrated broader anti‐inflammatory effects by reducing IL‐6, IL‐8 ...

Diaphragm ultrasonography detected progressive structural and functional deterioration in mechanically ventilated children. Prolonged invasive mechanical ventilation and neuromuscular blocking agent use were associated with ventilator‐induced diaphragmatic dysfunction, highlighting ultrasound as a valuable bedside tool to support individualized ...

Food Security Versus Environmental Health: The Nitrogen Dilemma
ABSTRACT Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth and, consequently, crop production. However, the cycling of nitrogen in the environment can have negative effects. Here, we review the historical development of scientific and public awareness of these effects and the influence this has had on political action to control them.

Application of PRVC ventilation mode in one-lung ventilation during pulmonary lobectomy
Background and purpose: Obvious pulmonary dysfunction may exsist preoperatively in part of the patients undergoing pulmonary lobectomy. Volume-controlled ventilation (VC) during one-lung ventilation (OLV) may lead to lung injury in lung cancer patients ...
