A Molecular Shielding Strategy to Develop Low Protein Binding, Renal Clearable Pan‐Cancer Near‐Infrared Probes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A molecular shielding strategy to convert “protein‐sticky” and “non‐tumor specific” clinical ICG dye, into a “low protein binding” and “tumor‐targeting” dye with prolonged blood circulation and renal clearance is described. These shielded ICGs demonstrate strong tumor accumulation and optimal tissue clearance, resulting in high tumor‐to‐background ...

Effects of fatty acids on inflammatory markers studies in vitro and in vivo

open access: yes, 2008
Inflammation involves interactions amongst many different cell types as a defense mechanism of the body. Inflammation is also involved in cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Affinity‐Tuned Albumin Hitchhiking Extends the Bioorthogonal Capture Window in Pretargeting Radiotheranostics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Pharmacokinetic engineering of clickable radioligands was achieved via albumin hitchhiking approach within a pretargeted radiotheranostics delivery platform. This approach reduced rapid renal elimination, expanded bioorthogonal capture window, boosted tumor uptake by ∼3.5‐fold, and improved the tumor‐to‐liver ratio by ∼6‐fold.

Genetic variation in bovine milk fat composition

open access: yes, 2009
In her thesis, Stoop shows that there is considerable genetic variation in milk fat composition, which opens opportunities to improve milk fat composition by selective breeding.

Clinical, biochemical and genetic profiling of X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy in Egyptian pediatric patients: a hospital-based study

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics
Background X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy, the most common peroxisomal disorder, is caused by ABCD1 gene mutations. This genetic disorder is characterized by the defective degradation of very long-chain fatty acids.

Reduced chain length in myelin sphingolipids and poorer motor coordination in mice deficient in the fatty acid elongase Elovl1

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, 2019
Very‐long‐chain fatty acids, with a chain length of >C20, are abundant in myelin sphingolipids. Recently, a de novo mutation in the ELOVL1 gene, which encodes fatty acid elongase, was identified in patients with neurocutaneous disorders involving skin ...

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Structures and stereochemistry of the very long alpha, omega-bifunctional alkyl species in the membrane of Sarcina ventriculi indicate that they are formed by tail-to-tail coupling of normal fatty acids.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1994
In a previous study, we demonstrated that Sarcina ventriculi is capable of adjusting to alterations in environmental conditions (such as increase in temperature, lowering of pH, or addition of exogenous organic solvents) by the synthesis of a family of ...

Eutectozymes as Soft Hybrid Materials for Advanced Biocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Eutectozymes are sustainable hybrid materials that embed a GOx–HRP cascade within hydrophobic eutectogels featuring a dual supramolecular–covalent network. This architecture preserves native enzyme structure and stability, enables efficient heterogeneous biocatalysis in aqueous media, and positions eutectogels as robust platforms for next‐generation ...
