Nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2 phase separates into RNA-rich polymerase-containing condensates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The etiologic agent of the Covid-19 pandemic is the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The viral membrane of SARS-CoV-2 surrounds a helical nucleocapsid in which the viral genome is encapsulated by the nucleocapsid protein. The

An Oral Antiviral Combination Against Severe COVID‐19 Enabled by the Synergistic Mechanisms of Action of Auranofin and Remdesivir

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FDA‐approved anti‐inflammatory drug Auranofin inhibits SARS‐CoV‐2 replication by inhibiting viral Main protease activity and Spike processing required for viral entry. It shows strong synergy with nucleoside analogue Remdesivir, due to non‐overlapping mechanisms.

Interactions between HIV-1 nucleocapsid protein and viral DNA may have important functions in the viral life cycle [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1993
In the virion core of retroviruses, the genomic RNA is tightly associated with nucleocapsid (NC) protein molecules, forming the nucleocapsid structure. NC protein, a highly basic protein with two zinc fingers, is indispensable for RNA dimerization, encapsidation and the initiation of reverse transcription in avian, murine and human retroviruses.

Innate sensing of HIV-infected cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cell-free HIV-1 virions are poor stimulators of type I interferon (IFN) production. We examined here how HIV-infected cells are recognized by plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) and by other cells.

The Nucleoprotein and Phosphoprotein of Measles Virus

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Measles virus is a negative strand virus and the genomic and antigenomic RNA binds to the nucleoprotein (N), assembling into a helical nucleocapsid. The polymerase complex comprises two proteins, the Large protein (L), that both polymerizes RNA and caps ...

Recent Advances in Virus–Host Interactions, Antiviral Bioactive Compounds, and Breeding for Disease Resistance of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Basic research on the PEDV infection cycle and virus–host interactions advances the development of anti‐PEDV drugs and disease‐resistant breeding and helps strengthen disease prevention and control while reducing economic losses in the swine industry.

Nucleocapsid protein captures DDX5 and RNMT facilitating viral RNA synthesis and viral protein translation for coronavirus replication

open access: yesmBio
ABSTRACT Coronaviruses (CoVs) hijack host RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) to facilitate their replication, but the viral proteins and host RBDs that participate in the synthesis of viral RNA and protein are unclear.

Establishment of Humanized EFNB2/B3 Murine Models for Investigating Nipah Virus Pathogenesis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nipah virus (NiV) is a zoonotic paramyxovirus classified as a WHO priority pathogen, which causes severe respiratory disease and encephalitis in humans with high mortality. Currently, no licensed vaccines or specific antiviral therapies are available.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus nucleocapsid protein does not modulate transcription of the human FGL2 gene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Among the structural and nonstructural proteins of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), the nucleocapsid (N) protein plays pivotal roles in the biology and pathogenesis of viral infection.

Epidemiological Survey and Genomic Insights Into Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 Transmission in the Blood Clam Anadara broughtonii in China (2019–2025)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Seven‐year surveillance reveals a cold‐adapted OsHV‐1 lineage in blood clams, with disease onset at 13°C—3–5°C lower than in oysters—and identifies asymptomatic carriers and facility effluent as key transmission routes. ABSTRACT Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV‐1) poses a major threat to bivalve aquaculture, but its impact on blood clams (Anadara ...
