Management of Virologic Failure and HIV Drug Resistance

open access: yesInfectious Disease Clinics of North America, 2019
Approximately 20% of people with HIV in the United States prescribed antiretroviral therapy are not virally suppressed. Thus, optimal management of virologic failure has a critical role in the ability to improve viral suppression rates to improve long-term health outcomes for those infected and to achieve epidemic control.

Predictors of Virological Failure and Time to Viral Suppression of First-Line Integrase Inhibitor–Based Antiretroviral Treatment

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2020
Background Integrase strand transfer inhibitors (InSTIs) are recommended for first-line treatment of persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). We identified risk factors, including baseline minor InSTI resistance mutations, for treatment failure ...

NAFLD‐related hepatocellular carcinoma: The growing challenge

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Risk and protective factors for NAFLD‐related hepatocellular carcinoma Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common cause of cancer‐related mortality and morbidity worldwide. With the obesity pandemic, NAFLD‐related HCC is contributing to the burden of disease exponentially.

Determinants of Virological Failure Among Patients on First-line Antiretroviral Therapy in Central Oromia, Ethiopia: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesHIV/AIDS, 2020
Background Viral suppression among people living with HIV is the main goal of antiretroviral therapy (ART). Despite the treatment, more than four million people and over 55 thousand patients globally and in Ethiopia had virological failure respectively ...

Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy and Virologic Failure

open access: yesMedicine, 2016
The often cited need to achieve ≥95% (nearly perfect) adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) for successful virologic outcomes in HIV may present a barrier to initiation of therapy in the early stages of HIV. This meta-analysis synthesized 43 studies (27,905 participants) performed across >26 countries, to determine the relationship between cut-off ...

Mitochondrial stress in advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis associated with chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Adaptive mitochondrial mechanisms allow mitochondrial resilience and prevent the worsening of fibrosis, while deregulation of these mechanisms promotes the progression from no/minimal‐mild (F0‐F2) fibrosis to advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis (F3‐F4). Abstract Background and Aims Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes oxidative stress (OS) and alters ...

Leveraging corona virus disease 2019 vaccination to promote hepatitis C screening

open access: yesHepatology Communications, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Health care initiatives, such as hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening, have been greatly overshadowed by the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. However, COVID‐19 vaccination programs also provide an opportunity to engage with a high volume of people in a health care setting.
