This review highlights recent advances in smart face masks that actively monitor breathing. By integrating humidity, gas, temperature, pressure, strain, and triboelectric sensors, these masks track key respiratory parameters in real time. The article summarizes sensor mechanisms, compares performance across studies, and discusses challenges and future ...

Human cytomegalovirus UL138 interaction with USP1 activates STAT1 in infection.
Innate immune responses are crucial for limiting virus infection. However, viruses often hijack our best defenses for viral objectives. Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a beta herpesvirus which establishes a life-long latent infection.

Respiratory Organ‐on‐a‐Chip for Disease Modeling: From Architecture to Functional Integration
Respiratory organ‐on‐a‐chip (ROC) models capture key mechanical and cellular cues of the human respiratory system, enabling quantitative dissection of disease mechanisms. This review links ROC architectures to disease modeling, functional integration, and commercialization, and proposes a decision framework that aligns model complexity with mechanistic

Latency of Human Measles Virus in Hamster Cells [PDF]
A latent system employing measles virus (Schwarz strain) was developed in hamster embryo fibroblasts (HEF). Measles virus-specific antigen was detected by immunofluorescence in 30 to 50% of HEF cells, and these cells released infectious virus when co-cultivated with a susceptible monkey cell line, BSC-1 cells.

Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Key Issues in Varicella-Zoster Virus Latency [PDF]
The molecular mechanisms by which varicella-zoster virus (VZV) causes a latent infection in human trigeminal and spinal ganglia are not well understood. It is known that VZV establishes latency in ganglia following the primary infection causing varicella (chickenpox), and that the virus may reactivate after years of dormancy to produce herpes zoster ...

This study identifies the HDAC6/GATA4/HtrA1 axis as a critical driver of cellular senescence in the inner ear. GATA4 nuclear translocation, facilitated by HDAC6 downregulation, transcriptionally activates HtrA1, promoting hair cell senescence, SASP, and audio‐vestibular dysfunction in models of Ménière's disease and age‐related audio‐vestibular ...

A Tac1‐Expressing Brainstem Pathway Underlies the Pathogenesis of Trigeminal Neuralgia
A critical TG‐Sp5CTac1‐PBNTac1 pathway drives trigeminal neuropathic pain (TNP). Tac1‐expressing parabrachial nucleus (PBNTac1) neurons exhibit heightened responses to innocuous stimuli in TNP, and chemogenetic inhibition of these neurons effectively prevents TNP development.

Fibronectin 1 (FN1)‐expressing subicular subpopulations encode novel object preference and selectively govern retrieval of novel object recognition (NOR) via affecting excitability of entorhinal‐projecting circuit through large conductance Ca2+‐activated potassium (BK) channel. ABSTRACT Novel object recognition (NOR), referring to the cognitive ability
