Dengue Virus Genome Uncoating Requires Ubiquitination [PDF]

open access: yesmBio, 2016
The process of genome release or uncoating after viral entry is one of the least-studied steps in the flavivirus life cycle. Flaviviruses are mainly arthropod-borne viruses, including emerging and reemerging pathogens such as dengue, Zika, and West Nile ...

Mechanisms of virus uncoating [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Microbiology, 1994
In a virus particle, the genome is highly condensed and protected by proteins and membrane bilayers. Before it can be replicated in a new host cell, uncoating must take place. Recent studies on enveloped and nonenveloped animal viruses indicate that uncoating occurs through complex, multistep processes triggered by virus-host-cell interactions.

Influenza A virus uncoating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Influenza A virus (IAV) is an enveloped virus of the Orthomyxoviridae with a negative-sense single-stranded RNA genome. During virus cell entry, viral and cellular cues are delivered in a stepwise manner within two distinct cellular compartments-the endosomes and the cytosol.

DNA confinement drives uncoating of the HIV Virus [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal Special Topics, 2014
We present a model for the uncoating of the HIV virus driven by forces exerted on the protein shell of HIV generated by DNA confinement.

Structural characterization of Ebola virus uncoating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Viruses initiate infection of host cells by entering through a variety of different pathways. Their entry is concluded by the release of the viral genome into the cytoplasm, where the cellular machinery gets repurposed for virus replication. Prerequisite for genome release is the uncoating of the viral particles, a process which requires the ...

Examination of Potential Inhibitors of Hepatitis A Virus Uncoating

open access: yesIntervirology, 1998
Hepatitis A virus (HAV) replication in BS-C-1 cells was studied in the presence of ten potential uncoating inhibitors. Strong inhibition of HAV replication was only observed in the presence of the phenothiazine compound chlorpromazine and the lysosomotropic agent chloroquine, but not by other lysosomotropic agents.

Real-time Fluorescence Measurement of Enterovirus Uncoating

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2020
Viruses need to open, i.e., uncoat, in order to release their genomes for efficient replication and translation. Especially for non-enveloped viruses, such as enteroviruses, the cues leading to uncoating are less well known.

Adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAV2) uncoating is a stepwise process and is linked to structural reorganization of the nucleolus. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2022
Nucleoli are membrane-less structures located within the nucleus and are known to be involved in many cellular functions, including stress response and cell cycle regulation. Besides, many viruses can employ the nucleolus or nucleolar proteins to promote

Adeno‐associated virus serotype 2 capsid variants for improved liver‐directed gene therapy

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Background and Aims Current liver‐directed gene therapies look for adeno‐associated virus (AAV) vectors with improved efficacy. With this background, capsid engineering is explored. Whereas shuffled capsid library screenings have resulted in potent liver targeting variants with one first vector in human clinical trials, modifying natural ...
