Stability of B2 compounds: Role of the $M$ point phonons [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Although many binary compounds have the B2 (CsCl-type) structure in the thermodynamic phase diagram, an origin of the structural stability is not understood well. Here, we focus on 416 compounds in the B2 structure extracted from the Materials Project, and study the dynamical stability of those compounds from first principles.

Controlled inactivation of recombinant viruses with vitamin B2 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virological Methods, 2008
Inactivated viruses are important tools for vaccine development and gene transfer. 8-Methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) and long-wavelength ultraviolet irradiation (LWUVI) inactivates many viruses. Toxicity limits its use in animals and humans. Toxicological and photosensitizing properties of riboflavin make it suitable for virus inactivation in preparations for ...

Vitamin D sensitivity to the immune responses and autoimmunity: A chemical network model study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Although Vitamin D is believed to be involved in a large number of immune responses our understanding of these processes at cellular level remained at infancy. We develop and solve a coarse grained kinetic network model to quantify the effects of variation of vitamin D on human immunity. The system of equations accounts for known inter-relation between

Calculation of the Sun exposure time for the synthesis of vitamin D in Urcuquí, Ecuador [PDF]

open access: yesProceeding of Abstracts of IWBBIO, Francisco Ortu\~no Guzm\'an, Ignacio Rojas Ru\'iz (Comp.), ISBN: 978-84-16929-58-0 (2017), 27, 2017
The synthesis of vitamin D is strongly linked to the availability of solar energy. For a long time, it was clear that using the erythemal irradiances is a good choice to calculate the exposure time. Several authors argue that this method of minimum exposure time overestimates the calculation of the solar irradiance of vitamin D.

Optical dispersion control in surfactant-free DNA thin films by vitamin B2 doping

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
A new route to systematically control the optical dispersion properties of surfactant-free deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) thin solid films was developed by doping them with vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin.

Infall, Fragmentation and Outflow in Sgr B2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Observations of H$_{2}$CO lines and continuum at 1.3 mm towards Sgr B2(N) and Sgr B2(M) cores were carried out with the SMA. We imaged H$_{2}$CO line absorption against the continuum cores and the surrounding line emission clumps. The results show that the majority of the dense gas is falling into the major cores where massive stars have been formed ...

Berries: Health Effects via Modulation of the Gut Microbiota

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Berries are widely regarded as beneficial foods, rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, and other bioactive compounds that could positively influence human health. Although the gut microbiota plays a crucial role in metabolism and physiology of humans, the interaction between berries and human gut microbiota activity remains unclear.

Nutraceuticals and COVID‐19: A mechanistic approach toward attenuating the disease complications

open access: yesJournal of Food Biochemistry, Volume 46, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Nutraceuticals have emerged as potential compounds to attenuate the COVID‐19 complications. Precisely, these food additives strengthen the overall COVID treatment and enhance the immunity of a person. Such compounds have been used at a large scale, in almost every household due to their better affordability and easy access.

Associations between single and multiple dietary vitamins and the risk of periodontitis: results from NHANES 2009–2014

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundPeriodontitis is a prevalent inflammatory periodontal disease that has an impact on the overall quality of life. Although several studies have indicated an association between individual vitamin intake and periodontitis risk, the associations ...
