Comparative Study of B Vitamins in Multiple Tissues of Oilseed Crops and Leafty Vegetables Reveal Sesame as a Valuable Resource in Vitamin B3, B6 and B12

open access: yesAntioxidants
B vitamins are essential micronutrients for human health with prominent antioxidant properties, capable of scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and maintaining redox homeostasis, protecting cells from oxidative damage.

Circulating levels of reactive oxygen species in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy and the influence of antioxidant supplementation: 6-month follow-up [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The aim was to evaluate circulating levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and changes in central macular thickness (CMT) in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) after antioxidant supplementation.

Treatment of Vitamin D Deficiency in Decompensated Patients with Cirrhosis Is Associated with Improvement in Frailty

open access: yesMedical Sciences
Background/aim: Frailty is increasingly recognized as a relevant prognostic factor in patients with cirrhosis, regardless of liver failure. Vitamin D deficiency is frequent in these patients and has been related to frailty and sarcopenia, but the impact ...

THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF VITAMIN E ON THE REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF ZEBRAFISH (Danio rerio)

open access: yesJurnal Akuakultur Indonesia, 2007
This experiment was conducted to determine the dietary Vitamin E requirement for reproduction of broodstock zebrafish Danio rerio.  Four isonitrogenous (39% crude protein) and isocaloric (3,260 kcal digestible energy/kg diet) practical diets, namely ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Relation between vitamin D deficiency and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of positional vertigo. Vitamin D deficiency may be one of the causes of its development. To assess the relation between recurrent attacks BPPV and Vitamin D deficiency.
