Vitamin K content of Australian-grown horticultural commodities [PDF]

open access: yesFood Chem. 452:139382 (2024)
Vitamin K is emerging as a multi-function vitamin that plays a role in bone, brain and vascular health. Vitamin K composition data remain limited globally and Australia has lacked nationally representative data for vitamin K1 (phylloquinone, PK) in horticultural commodities.

Receptor uptake arrays for vitamin B12, siderophores and glycans shape bacterial communities [PDF]

open access: yesEcology & Evolution 7:10175-10195 (2017), 2017
Molecular variants of vitamin B12, siderophores and glycans occur. To take up variant forms, bacteria may express an array of receptors. The gut microbe Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron has three different receptors to take up variants of vitamin B12 and 88 receptors to take up various glycans.

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

The stability of 3 transmembrane and 4 transmembrane human vitamin K epoxide reductase models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
3 transmembrane and 4 transmembrane helices models are suggested for the human vitamin K epoxide reductase (VKOR). In this study, we investigate the stability of the human 3 transmembrane/4 transmembrane VKOR models employing a coarse-grained normal mode analysis and molecular dynamics simulation.

Metabolic engineering of micronutrients in crop plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Micronutrient deficiency is a widespread phenomenon, most prevalent in developing countries. Being causally linked to the occurrence of a range of diseases, it affects billions of people worldwide. Enhancing the content of micronutrients in crop products

Targeting PRAME directly or via EZH2 inhibition overcomes retinoid resistance and represents a novel therapy for keratinocyte carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The study evaluated the function and therapeutic implications of PRAME in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The findings demonstrate that PRAME impairs keratinocyte differentiation pathways. Furthermore, PRAME impairs anticancer response to retinoid compounds in BCC and SCC cells.

Biosynthesis of food constituents: Vitamins. 1. Fat-soluble vitamins - a review

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2007
This review article gives a survey of the generally accepted biosynthetic pathways that lead to fat-soluble vitamins (vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, the corresponding provitamins, and the closely related ubiquinones and plastoquinones) in ...

Bone‐wise rigid registration of femur, tibia, and fibula for the tracking of temporal changes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Multiple myeloma (MM) induces temporal alterations in bone structure, such as osteolytic bone lesions, which are challenging to identify through manual image interpretation. The large variation in radiologists' assessments, even at expert centers, further complicates diagnosis.
