Volatilomes of Bacterial Infections in Humans [PDF]
Sense of smell in humans has the capacity to detect certain volatiles from bacterial infections. Our olfactory senses were used in ancient medicine to diagnose diseases in patients.

Dependence of the Staphylococcal Volatilome Composition on Microbial Nutrition [PDF]
In vitro cultivation of staphylococci is fundamental to both clinical and research microbiology, but few studies, to-date, have investigated how the differences in rich media can influence the volatilome of cultivated bacteria.

Preprocessing and analysis of volatilome data
Biomarker discovery, i.e., finding disease or condition-specific biological markers, is a crucial aspect of biomedical research. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are excreted by various biofluids, cells and tissues, and bacteria, and these have been ...

Volatile Emissions From Diverse Estuarine Bacteria Share Core Compounds With a Subset of Strain-Specific, Low Abundance Compounds. [PDF]
Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) emissions from 16 heterotrophic bacterial strains cultivated from Baltic Sea surface waters were quantified using PTR‐ToF‐MS. Strains showed broadly overlapping volatilomes with no clear phylogenetic relationship. Acetone was highly abundant in most strains, along with a suite of core compounds.

Unraveling the Chemical Dialogue: The Impact of Volatiles on the Interaction Between PGPR and Verticillium dahliae in Pepper Plants. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Plant growth–promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have attracted increasing scientific interest due to their potential to enhance crop productivity and alleviate plant stress. An important trait of PGPR is the production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can play crucial roles in plant–microbe and interspecies communication.

Volatilomes of human infection
AbstractThe human volatilome comprises a vast mixture of volatile emissions produced by the human body and its microbiomes. Following infection, the human volatilome undergoes significant shifts, and presents a unique medium for non-invasive biomarker discovery.
