Disorder‐Broadened Topological Hall Phase and Anomalous Hall Scaling in FeGe

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By systematically introducing defects into FeGe via ion‐beam modification, we demonstrate that disorder broadens the temperature regime over which the topological Hall effect ‐ a signature of skyrmions or other chiral textures — appears, while also increasing its magnitude.

Discovery of Energy‐Localized Trap States via Opto‐Electrical Spectroscopy in UWBG Perovskite La:SrSnO3 FETs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Combined UV–vis transmittance and wavelength‐dependent photo‐assisted DC I–V analyses reveal defect‐induced optical instability and a high density of deep donor‐like subgap traps in La‐doped SrSnO3. The resulting MOSFET achieves one of the highest on/off ratios reported for ABO3 perovskite devices, demonstrating the promise of stannate perovskites as ...

High conductance anion channel in Schwann cell vesicles from rat spinal roots [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Potassium uptake, possibly together with chloride, is one of the presumed functions of Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system. However, the presence of chloride channels has not been demonstrated in adult Schwann cells.

ATP‐Mediated Bidirectional Communication Between Natural and Artificial Cells for Controlled Bioreactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Establishment of bidirectional communication behavior between natural and artificial cells. The first type of communication from natural dendritic cells to artificial polymeric cells was achieved via ATP release after cell lysis. The released ATP was taken up via gated UV‐controlled permeability increase of the polymeric membrane for performing ...

Voltage gating of mechanosensitive PIEZO channels

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
PIEZO proteins form mechanosensitive ion channels. Here the authors present electrophysiological measurements that show that PIEZO channels are also modulated by voltage and can switch to a purely voltage gated mode, which is an evolutionary conserved ...

VGIchan: Prediction and Classification of Voltage-Gated Ion Channels

open access: yesGenomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics, 2006
Abstract This study describes methods for predicting and classifying voltage-gated ion channels. Firstly, a standard support vector machine (SVM) method was developed for predicting ion channels by using amino acid composition and dipeptide composition, with an accuracy of 82.89% and 85.56%, respectively.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Membrane Potential-Dependent Inactivation of Voltage-Gated Ion Channels in α-Cells Inhibits Glucagon Secretion From Human Islets

open access: yesDiabetes, 2010
OBJECTIVE To document the properties of the voltage-gated ion channels in human pancreatic α-cells and their role in glucagon release. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Glucagon release was measured from intact islets.

Nanomaterial Strategies for Pulmonary Delivery of Immunotherapeutics in Lung Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Inhalable immunotherapeutic nanomedicines enable organ‐selective immune modulation by overcoming pulmonary delivery barriers and concentrating therapy within lung tumors. This Review defines how nanomaterial properties govern airway deposition, retention, cellular partitioning, and immune activation across vaccines, checkpoint blockade, STING agonists,

Noncanonical mechanism of voltage sensor coupling to pore revealed by tandem dimers of Shaker

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Homotetrameric voltage-gated ion channels are assembled from individual subunits containing structurally distinct voltage sensor (VSD) and pore domains (PD).
