Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Optical clearing and shielding with fan-shaped vortex beams
We propose and demonstrate a new method for creation of fan-shaped optical vortex beams by rational phase modulation and assembly based on a well-known conical vortex phase.

Introduction to Weak Measurements and Weak Values
We present a short review of the theory of weak measurement. This should serve as a map for the theory and an easy way to get familiar with the main results, problems and paradoxes raised by the theory. Quanta 2013; 2: 7–17.

Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

A weak turbulence theory for incompressible magnetohydrodynamics [PDF]
We derive a weak turbulence formalism for incompressible magnetohydrodynamics. Three-wave interactions lead to a system of kinetic equations for the spectral densities of energy and helicity. The kinetic equations conserve energy in all wavevector planes

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

The integrated angular bispectrum of weak lensing [PDF]
openWe investigate three-point statistics in weak lensing convergence, through the integrated angular bispectrum. It involves measuring the three-point function of harmonic multipoles of the lensing field by estimating how the angular power spectrum (two-
