First Report of Ascochyta Blight of Cicer montbretii, a Wild Perennial Chickpea in Bulgaria

open access: yesPlant Disease, 1998
In the Stranja Mountains of southeastern Bulgaria, native populations of Cicer montbretii Jaub. & Spach were found on the edge of a road in an oak forest near the village of Gramatikova (42°1′38″N; 27°36′49″E) at an elevation of about 125 m. C. montbretii, a perennial species, is the only wild Cicer sp. native to Bulgaria.

Use made of wild legume relatives in breeding [PDF]

open access: yes
Presently vast genetic resources are available for improvement of the main crops used by humans and animals. The ex-situ collections safeguard those resources collected in the past, although not all collections are safe even today as far as personnel and

Is it still necessary to continue to collect crop genetic resources in the Mediterranean area? a case study in Catalonia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
© 2017 The New York Botanical Garden Crop genetic resources have been extensively collected in Europe in the last century, creating large, publicly available ex situ collections. While this huge genetic diversity is often underutilized, in recent decades,

A genome-wide combinatorial strategy dissects complex genetic architecture of seed coat colour in chickpea

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
The study identified 9045 high-quality SNPs employing both genome-wide GBS- and candidate gene-based SNP genotyping assays in 172, including 93 cultivated (desi and kabuli) and 79 wild chickpea accessions.

Are we there yet? : reliably estimating the completeness of plant genome sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Genome sequencing is becoming cheaper and faster thanks to the introduction of next-generation sequencing techniques. Dozens of new plant genome sequences have been released in recent years, ranging from small to gigantic repeat-rich or polyploid genomes.

Horizontal Transfer of Symbiosis Genes within and Between Rhizobial Genera : Occurrence and Importance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Rhizobial symbiosis genes are often carried on symbiotic islands or plasmids that can be transferred (horizontal transfer) between different bacterial species. Symbiosis genes involved in horizontal transfer have different phylogenies with respect to the

A Novel Seed-Dressing Formulation Based on an Improved Mutant Strain of Trichoderma virens, and Its Field Evaluation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Using gamma-ray-induced mutagenesis, we have developed a mutant (named G2) of Trichoderma virens that produced two- to three-fold excesses of secondary metabolites, including viridin, viridiol, and some yet-to-be identified compounds.

Phenophasic development of wild Cicer species in relation to agroclimatic indices under rainfed and irrigated conditions

open access: yesJournal of Agrometeorology, 2018
The field study was conducted on six wild chickpea accessions to evaluate the influence of agroclimatic indices viz., accumulated growing degree days (GDD), photo-thermal unit (PTU) and heliothermal unit (PTU) at various phenophases of chickpea under ...

Genetic control and geo-climate adaptation of pod dehiscence provide novel insights into the soybean domestication and expansion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Loss of pod dehiscence is a key step during soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] domestication. Genome-wide association analysis for soybean shattering identified loci harboring Pdh1, NST1A and SHAT1-5.
