Anti-Nociceptive and Antioxidant Activity of Betaine on Formalin- and Writhing Tests Induced Pain in Mice

Behavioural Brain Research, 2020
Pain is a physiological response which is mediated via the central and peripheral nervous system. Betaine, is a methyl glycine derivative and a commonly used nutrient supplement. The main purpose of the current paper is to determine the possible anti-nociceptive and antioxidant activity and sedative effect of betaine in mice.

The Role of Neuronal Nitric Oxide Synthase on Hypobaric Hypoxiainduced Antinociception in Writhing Test

Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2010
It has been reported that hypobaric hypoxia exposure by high altitude is responsible for neuropsychological impairment. In the present study, we examined an effect of hypobaric hypoxia on the writhing test. The ICR mice were exposed in hypobaric chamber with several altitudes (5000, 10,000 or 20,000 ft) for 1 or 2 h, and then immediately injected ...

Supraspinal and spinal potency of selective opioid agonists in the mouse writhing test.

The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 1987
Three agonists with the highest degree of selectivity available for mu ([D-Ala2,NMePhe4,Gly-ol]enkephalin, DAGO), delta ([ D-Pen2,D-Pen5]enkephalin, DPDPE) and kappa (U-50,488H, U50) opioid receptors were compared for their activity in inhibiting acetic acid-induced writhing in mice.

Antidepressants Enhance the Antinociceptive Effects of Carbamazepine in the Acetic Acid-Induced Writhing Test in Mice

European Journal of Pharmacology, 2006
Some antidepressants, as well as antiepileptics, are effective for treating pain of varying etiology. The present study was designed to characterize the antinociceptive effects of imipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant, fluvoxamine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, milnacipran, a serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor, and carbamazepine ...

A test for analgesics: incoordination in writhing mice.

Methods and findings in experimental and clinical pharmacology, 1987
Acetic acid administered to mice resulted in post-writhing incoordination and a subsequent fall in the rota-rod test. This fall from rota-rod induced by 3% acetic acid was dose-dependently protected by the non-narcotic analgesics. While suprofen was found to be the most potent (ED50 = 15.29 mg/kg), aspirin was found to be the least potent (ED50 = 81.54

Interaction of angiotensin II and adenosine A1 and A2A receptor ligands on the writhing test in mice

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 2002
The effects of adenosine A1 and A2A receptor agonists and antagonists administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) and their interaction with angiotensin II (Ang II) administered intracerebroventricularly (i.c.v.) were studied in mice using the acetic acid-induced abdominal constriction test.

Synergistic interaction between rilmenidine and ibuprofen in the writhing test in mice.

Neuro endocrinology letters, 2009
The aim of the study was to ascertain whether rilmenidine, a second generation imidazoline-alpha-2-adrenoreceptor agonist, is able to increase analgesic effects of ibuprofen in the writhing test in mice. Experimental studies combining these agents have not yet been published. An acetic acid (0.7%) solution was injected into the peritoneal cavity and the

A test for analgesics as an indicator of locomotor activity in writhing mice.

Archives internationales de pharmacodynamie et de therapie, 1980
Marked depression of locomotor activity was observed in writhing mice given acetic acid i.p. This depression of the activity was evidenced by a squatting posture in reaction to pain. The hypoactivity was reversed dose-dependently by nonnarcotic analgesics such as acetyl-salicylic acid, aminopyrine and mefenamic acid in smaller dosages than those ...

Acetic acid and phenylquinone writhing test: a critical study in mice.

Methods and findings in experimental and clinical pharmacology, 1984
Studies were planned to establish the dose-effect relationship with both acetic acid and phenylquinone and to find out suitable concentrations for these two chemicals for pre- and post screening. The LD50 of acetic acid and phenylquinone were found to be 3.16% and 0.23%, respectively.

Antinociceptive Activity of Lectins from Diocleinae Seeds on Acetic Acid-Induced Writhing Test in Mice

Protein & Peptide Letters, 2009
Diocleinae lectins administered per oral route in mice inhibited the abdominal constrictions induced by acetic acid. The percentage of the lectins antinociception varied from 61% for Canavalia grandiflora (ConGf) to 20% for Dioclea violacea. ConGf inhibited contortions at all doses tested but not in a dose-dependent manner, involving carbohydrate ...
