Implication of changes in xanthine oxidase activity following hemodialysis
Background Xanthine oxidase activity has a key role in the development of oxidative stress and progression of cardiovascular diseases. However, the change of xanthine oxidase activity following hemodialysis and its prognostic impact remain uncertain ...

The action of xanthin and methyl xanthins on the isolated intestine
The tests were made with different concentrations of xanthin and its derivatives dissolved in Locke's solution which were carried out on segments of different parts of the intestine of the rabbit. Sodium xanthin in concentrations of 1 : 2,000 and 1 : 1,000 caused increased tonus which was more pronounced in the large than in the small intestine.

An investigation of the antiplatelet effects of succinobucol (AGI-1067) [PDF]
Succinobucol is a phenolic antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and antiplatelet effects. Given the importance of oxidant stress in modulating platelet–platelet and platelet–vessel wall interactions, the aim of this study was to establish if antioxidant ...

Aims Shunting (hypermethylating) thiopurine metabolism, characterized by excessive 6‐MMPR production and (sub)therapeutic 6‐TGN levels, poses a significant challenge in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This study evaluates the metabolic outcomes of switching to low‐dose thiopurine with allopurinol (LDTA) or thioguanine (TG) in IBD ...

Reactive oxygen-related diseases: therapeutic targets and emerging clinical indications [PDF]
SIGNIFICANCE Enhanced levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been associated with different disease states. Most attempts to validate and exploit these associations by chronic antioxidant therapies have provided disappointing results. Hence, the
