Produciton of xylo-oligosaccharides by chemo-enzymatic treatment of agricultural by-products

open access: yesBioResources, 2011
Several timbers and crop by-products were subjected to an enzymatic treatment to obtain a xylo-oligosaccharides-enriched preparation. The process was performed by means of the commercial endo-β-1,4-xylanase Buzyme 2511®. The enzymatic cocktail was applied onto the raw ground materials with yield up to 5.3 ± 1.0 g/L xylo-oligosaccharides for apple ...

Fusion of a xylan-binding module to gluco-oligosaccharide oxidase increases activity and promotes stable immobilization.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The xylan-binding module Clostridium thermocellum CBM22A was successfully fused to a gluco-oligosaccharide oxidase, GOOX-VN, from Sarocladium strictum via a short TP linker, allowing the fused protein to effectively bind different xylans. The presence of

Xylobiose Prevents High-Fat Diet Induced Mice Obesity by Suppressing Mesenteric Fat Deposition and Metabolic Dysregulation

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Obesity is a public concern and is responsible for various metabolic diseases. Xylobiose (XB), an alternative sweetener, is a major component of xylo-oligosaccharide.

Production of xylo-oligosaccharides from Miscanthus x giganteus by autohydrolysis

open access: yesBioResources, 2011
Xylo-oligosaccharides were obtained from Miscanthus x giganteus. The process was designed as a biorefinery scheme, which seeks the separation of the three main components: cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin. To extract the hemicelluloses, particularly xylans, in an efficient way, Miscanthus was subjected to autohydrolysis.

Purification and Characterization of a Xylanase from the Newly Isolated Penicillium rolfsii c3-2(1) IBRL

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
An extracellular xylanase was purified from the mesophilic fungus Penicillium rolfsii c3-2(1) IBRL. After three consecutive purification steps, the extracellular cellulase-free xylanase was successfully purified to homogeneity with a recovery yield of 24%

Microbial activity in the gut of piglets: effect of prebiotic and probiotic supplementation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Four groups of six 21 days-old piglets were used to evaluate the effect of a prebiotic or probiotic on the intestinal fermentative activity. In each group, piglets received one of the following diets: basal diet (C); basal diet supplemented with ...

A Small In Vitro Fermentation Model for Screening the Gut Microbiota Effects of Different Fiber Preparations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The development of prebiotic fibers requires fast high-throughput screening of their effects on the gut microbiota. We demonstrated the applicability of a mictotiter plate in the in vitro fermentation models for the screening of potentially-prebiotic ...

The effects of ad - libitum consumption of chitosan oligosaccharide with drinking water on laying quails [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of chitosan oligosaccharide on feed conversion ratio, some egg quality parameters, and some blood parameters in Japanise quails.  Chitosan oligosaccharide (ChitO) was added to the drinking water of ...

Non-energy Circular Economy Potential of Rice Husks: A Techno-eco-environmental Assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The non-energy circular bioeconomy potential of rice husks was examined via sustainability assessments, namely life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle impact cost assessment (LCICA), and techno-economic assessment (TEA).

Prebiotic Galacto-Oligosaccharide and Xylo-Oligosaccharide Feeds in Pig Production: Microbiota Manipulation, Pathogen Suppression, Gut Architecture and Immunomodulatory Effects

open access: yesApplied Microbiology
Gastrointestinal health is critical to the productivity and welfare of pigs. The transition from milk to plant-based feeds represents an intestinal challenge at wean that can result in dysbiosis and pathogen susceptibility.
