Longer Ubiquinone Side Chains Contribute to Enhanced Farnesol Resistance in Yeasts
Ubiquinones (UQ) are intrinsic lipid components of many membranes. Besides their role in electron-transfer reactions there is evidence for them acting as free radical scavengers, yet their other roles in biological systems have received little study. The

Effects of live yeast on the fatty acid biohydrogenation by ruminal bacteria [PDF]
Addition of live yeasts in high concentrate diets for ruminants has been shown to help maintaining the ruminal pH above 6, which could enhance the microbial biohydrogenation of unsaturated dietary fatty acids.

125th anniversary review: fuel alcohol: current production and future challenges [PDF]
Global research and industrial development of liquid transportation biofuels are moving at a rapid pace. This is mainly due to the significant roles played by biofuels in decarbonising our future energy needs, since they act to mitigate the deleterious ...

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Determination of Spoilage Yeasts in Different Red and White Wines
The aim of this study was to isolate and identify yeast species in wine samples from five different countries, and determine the genera of spoilage yeasts. One hundred and thirty four (no.

Effect of lactid acid bacteria inoculants, formic acid, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate on fermentation quality and aerobic stability of wilted grass silage [PDF]
The efficiency of a novel strain of lactic acid bacteria inoculant (Lactobacillus plantarum VTT E-78076, E76) on the fermentation quality of wilted silage was studied.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Isolation and Identification of Spoilage Yeasts in Wine Samples by MALDI-TOF MS Biotyper
Many genera and species of microorganisms can be found in grape musts and wines at various times during the winemaking process. For instance, Saccharomyces, Brettanomyces, and Pediococcus can be found together in wine.
