Iron‐Based Catalysts on Tailored Alumina Supports for COx‐Free Methane Decomposition to H2 and Carbon

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
Fe‐10ZrAl catalyst enables catalytic methane decomposition into COx‐free H2 and solid carbon. ZrO2‐modified alumina improves Fe particle stabilization, reducibility, and carbon growth behavior, giving the best performance among the tested catalysts with 76.5% CH4 conversion and 74.1% H2 yield at 800 °C.
